#6227 "License Inkwell under AGPL-3.0-only: LICENSE file and SPDX identifier". The operator chose AGPL-3.0-only, as for FabledStash (#6212). - LICENSE is the canonical GNU AGPL v3 text from gnu.org: 661 lines, md5 eb1e647870add0502f8f010b19de32af, the same file as FabledStash's. - AGPL-3.0-only is declared in pyproject.toml, frontend/package.json (and its lockfile root entry), the four crates, and tauri.conf.json's bundle. - The pacman package declared MIT; it now declares AGPL-3.0-only. - pyproject's build floor moves to setuptools>=77, the first release that reads `license` as an SPDX expression. - The README's Licence section names the licence, links LICENSE, and states the network clause in one sentence. Milestone 546 "Bring the repo to the comment standard (rule 32) and compose defaults (rule 198)", step #6223 "Comment standard sweep: Android client". KDoc, comments, manifest and resource notes, Gradle and TOML comments and the ffi crate's docs now state what the code does and the non-obvious why in the present tense. Issue, Scribe-note, milestone (M13, M304, M315, M12) and family-idea references are gone, as are comparisons to Minstrel and the narration of what used to be: the capture sheet the editor replaced, the per-note colour story, the operator's device-pass feedback, the bindgen-as-[[bin]] failure, the 0.60 edge alpha before it was re-solved, and the checker bugs behind check-strings/check-symbols. Hazards stay as facts: the signing key that can't be rotated, the alias that keeps the earlier name, PKCS12's single password, unwind over abort, the UTC date-picker read, the DerivedTint/colors.ts mirror. One stale claim is gone: DerivedTint said the web had no test runner, but notes/grammar.test.ts runs the same tint cases. detekt.yml said "these two places" over a list of five. 49 files, comments only: a comment-stripping diff of every changed file against HEAD is identical. rename: the desktop is Inkwell — crates, Tauri identity, data move, packaging
Step 3 of milestone 481 (Scribe note 5071: a full rename).
- crates thoughtsync-{core,desktop,ffi,uniffi-bindgen} → inkwell-*, the
Cargo.lock entries moved to match (checked with `cargo metadata --locked`)
- Tauri: productName "Inkwell", identifier com.fabledsword.inkwell, binary
`inkwell`, updater feed on bvandeusen/inkwell, store file inkwell.db
- client agent inkwell-desktop, headers X-Inkwell-Client/-Protocol (the server
reads neither), capture event inkwell://captured, display-version env
- .deb: conflicts + replaces thought-sync, so the updater's install retires the
old package instead of colliding on it. kebab-case("Inkwell") is `inkwell`, so
the package name finally matches the command and verify.sh now asserts it
- pacman: inkwell, conflicting with and replacing thoughtsync and
thoughtsync-desktop
- AppImage ~/Applications/Inkwell.AppImage, menu entry inkwell.desktop,
installer, release titles, desktop asset names in fetch-clients.sh
The one shim, chosen by the operator because it is the only copy of a
local-first user's notes: crossover.rs moves the old
com.fabledsword.thoughtsync app-data dir's contents into the new one on startup,
before the store opens, renaming thoughtsync.db and its -wal/-shm with it. It
skips when the new dir already has a store, and anything already in the new dir
wins (the installer writes its channel marker there first). Tested.
Android's Kotlin side (package, applicationId, uniffi class) is step 4. Its
release asset names stay thoughtsync.* until then.

android: the binding generator gets its own crate, free of the app's deps
Third Android run got further than either before it — all four ABIs cross-compiled, vendored OpenSSL and all — then the generator died: error: failed to run custom build command for `openssl-sys v0.9.117` That is the HOST build. The generator was a [[bin]] inside thoughtsync-ffi, so building it compiled that crate and therefore the core, reqwest, native-tls and openssl-sys for linux. The vendored-OpenSSL block is scoped to `cfg(target_os = "android")`, so the host build went looking for a system OpenSSL that ci-rust-android has no reason to carry. Adding libssl-dev to the image would have fixed it and been wrong: a code generator has no business linking the app's TLS stack to emit Kotlin. Splitting it into thoughtsync-uniffi-bindgen, whose only dependency is uniffi, removes the entire chain. Verified from the dependency graph rather than from a build that happened to succeed — `cargo tree -p thoughtsync-uniffi-bindgen` contains none of openssl-sys, native-tls, reqwest, thoughtsync-core or rusqlite. It stays a WORKSPACE MEMBER on purpose. Sharing one lockfile is what keeps uniffi here and uniffi linked into the .so at one version; they are two halves of one ABI, and a separate lockfile is precisely how they would drift apart. The cost is that the desktop lane now compiles ~15 generator crates it never runs — cheap next to Tauri, and better than leaving the crate unlinted. Drops the `bindgen` feature and required-features bin from thoughtsync-ffi, which existed only to keep those crates off the desktop lane and now have nothing to gate. Local fmt + clippy + test all green before pushing (107 tests). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |
