bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 c38fd68e48 feat(ui): a host's "Full metrics" heads its page, and a resource's anomalies are one line with a way to review them (#6797)

The host page's link to the full metrics sat in the Agent card, under the
anomaly card and the vitals strip, and was missed. It now heads the vitals
strip at the top of the page.

The anomaly card on the host, monitor, container and Traefik pages listed
every anomaly of the last 30 days with its review form, reviewed ones
included, and took over the top of the page. It is now one line: how many
wait for review, which are out of their normal now, and a Review button to
Alerts → Anomalies narrowed to that resource (?source=&resource=), where a
review returns. It is hidden when nothing waits and nothing is going on.
The callers fetch up to 100 rows so the count isn't capped at 10 or 20.

CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s

A stored log, timeline_entries, with one row per thing that happened. Each
source writes its row in the same transaction as its own record, so the
history outlives the 30/90/365-day retention of the tables it points to:

- alert events (core/alerts._add_event): fired, resolved, acknowledged,
  went silent, readings back;
- finished Ansible runs (executor, and the startup sweep of interrupted
  runs): changed something, changed nothing, failed, dry run;
- audit rows (core/audit.log_audit): Steward's settings, users and access,
sign-ins, backups. Actions another writer records are left to it.

Entries carry a kind (fixed) and an area (Service, Host OS, Hardware,
Storage, Network, Security, Monitoring). Settings → Timeline edits the
areas and each type's area and visibility; both are applied when the
timeline is read, so a change re-sorts past entries and a hidden type
comes back when shown. Kept forever unless a retention is set.

The first start fills the timeline from the last 90 days of records once,
skipping any already covered. A host rename carries its entries.

UI: Timeline in the sidebar (filter by host, area, kind; scrolls on), a
History card on each host page. MCP: get_timeline.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 5569f9934e feat(anomalies): a metric out of its normal is an anomaly to review (#5740)
CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s

CI / unit (push) Successful in 1m37s
CI / publish (push) Skipped
#5740 "A metric that departs from its normal is recorded as an anomaly to
review, and is findable after it ends", milestone 513.

- Every minute each learned key's last 15 minutes is judged against its
hour's normal: above the usual hold x1.25 and by the metric's floor opens
an occurrence, which ends when the level comes back.
- metric_anomalies holds one row per item to review; a repeat while it
still waits joins it as an occurrence (metric_anomaly_spans).
- An ended row nobody reviews within anomalies.review_days (14, Settings ->
Thresholds) lapses; an ongoing one never does.
- Learning skips every hour an occurrence covers unless its anomaly was
marked normal: no normal is learned without review.
- Alerts -> Anomalies lists those to review first, then the reviewed and
lapsed under day dividers; marking is operator/admin and audited.
- The Overview widget and get_overview warn of open ones and count those
to review; the host page shows its own; the weekly report lists the
week's and the lapsed; MCP list_anomalies and review_anomaly.
- Reviewed and lapsed rows are pruned at data.retention_days, and kept
  in backups like alert history.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 96c1ea9407 feat(host_agent): how far each host's clock is from Steward's (milestone 490)
CI / lint (push) Successful in 5s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 1m8s
CI / unit (push) Successful in 1m34s
CI / publish (push) Successful in 2m27s
- Agent 1.12.0 stamps each post with sent_at; ingest compares it with the
moment the post arrived: clock_offset_s / clock_checked_at on the
registration (host_agent_003), and a clock_off_secs metric (either way)
that alert rules can watch. Replaces the old skew log, which measured the
newest sample and was off by up to an interval.
- Settings -> Thresholds: Clock drift, 30 s warn / 5 min critical.
- Host page: 'clock 0.3s ahead' in the vitals line, toned past the warning.
- Hosts list: names hosts whose clock is off; when every reporting host is
off by about the same amount, says Steward's own clock is the likely one.

#5294 "Hosts list: search, group and status filters; sortable columns; a Groups column".
Ansible inventory groups are Steward's grouping system (operator's ruling): a host's
groups are its linked target's, and membership overlaps, so the list filters by group
rather than sectioning by it.

- Filter bar: search on name or address, a group (or "No group"), a status (Down,
Agent silent, Up, No monitors). The table swaps in alone and the URL keeps the filters.
- Name, Status, Latency, 30d uptime, CPU and Memory headers sort (sort_th in _macros);
problems-first stays the default, and a host with no value goes last either way.
- A Groups column of chips, each filtering to its group; shown when any group exists.
- A swap is keyed on HX-Target, so Back to a pushed URL still gets the page.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 fb20415a38 feat(hosts): a host's health tiles span the card and the gaps match; Add host is a dialog on the list (#5290, #5291)

CI / unit (push) Successful in 1m18s
CI / publish (push) Successful in 1m23s
CI / lint (push) Successful in 3s
#5290 "Host page: the health tiles span the card's width; even spacing above Ansible":
the four tiles take equal quarters (halves on a phone) and their sparklines stretch
across them; the Monitors + Agent row drops the Agent card's own margin, so the gap
above Ansible is 1rem like every other.

#5291 "Add host opens as a dialog over the Hosts list": a native <dialog> on /hosts/,
opened by Add host or /hosts/?add=1. A name clash re-renders the list with it open,
the error and what was typed. GET /hosts/new is gone; hosts/form.html is Edit only.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 bfe3618e88 feat(hosts): the Hosts list labels its figures and says how long; SLA tab gone; one place to add a host (#5279–#5283)
CI / integration (push) Successful in 53s
CI / lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI / unit (push) Successful in 1m16s
CI / publish (push) Successful in 1m23s
Hosts list:
- CPU and Memory are their own labelled columns (#5279); a silent
agent's last readings are greyed, and Status says "agent silent for 7m".
- One uptime figure, 30 days, with 24h and 7d on hover. The SLA tab
(/hosts/uptime) repeated it and is removed (#5280; one home per fact).
- Status is a word with how long ("Down for 12m"); host_status now carries
down_since. Edit and Delete live on the host's page only (#5281).
- Figures are right-aligned with tabular digits (.table .num), not a
  monospace face.

Agent fleet (#5282): its add-host form is gone, so hosts are added only on
Hosts -> Add host. That form was also the only way to get a token for a
manual curl install, so that moves to the host's Agent card as "Install
manually" (POST /fleet/<host_id>/register), shown on the fleet page as
before. "Delete" there reads "Unregister".

Add host (#5283): laid out like the add-monitor form; a name clash comes
back inline with what was typed instead of a bare text 400; the address
is optional, as the host page already allowed.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 d4974ddf6c feat(hosts): a host's page stays short — Docker folds past the busiest, monitors add on their own form, agent actions under Manage (#5276, #5277, #5278)
CI / integration (push) Successful in 59s
CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s

Docker panel (#5276): problems first, then the 8 busiest running
containers by CPU; the other running and the stopped fold behind one
"+N more running · M stopped" line. Containers that are not swarm tasks
read the way the Docker page reads them: CI jobs as "CI: workflow · job",
buildx builders as "BuildKit builder · name".

Monitors card (#5277): the edit/delete icon buttons and the inline add
form are gone. Each row links to its monitor's page; "Add monitor" opens
the add form filed under this host, starting from its address, with the
host in its breadcrumbs and Cancel back to it.

Agent card (#5278): Full metrics stays in view; Update, Rotate token,
Unregister agent (was "Remove") and Re-provision sit under "Manage agent".

CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 1m19s
CI / unit (push) Failing after 1m31s
CI / publish (push) Skipped
The Hosts — Overview widget opens with a verdict ("VDNT-Util01: CPU high."
or "All 3 hosts healthy."), then one row per host under one header: CPU,
memory, disk / and load. Rows sort by host_glance: a down monitor, a
reading past critical, a quiet agent, a warning, then the healthy. Load
reads "16.8 / 8 cores", graded per core as Settings → Thresholds intends
(cores counted from the per-core CPU sub-resources, as on the host page).
A quiet agent's last figures are shown uncoloured, with when it last reported.

Ping and 24h uptime are gone from this widget: they belong to Monitors. So
are the unlabelled CPU sparkline and the 30-day uptime query it no longer
needs.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 b5fcccba5f feat(dashboard): Monitors widget carries uptime; Uptime / SLA retired (#5250)
The Monitors widget opens with a verdict ("1 of 5 monitors down."), then one
row per monitor under a single header: latency and uptime over 24h, 7d and
30d, down monitors first with why and since when, the name linking to the
monitor. Counts follow the type filter. Problems always show; the limit
trims only the healthy rest ("+N more up").

Uptime / SLA (uptime_summary) repeated those numbers per host; migration
0033 moves dashboards onto Monitors. Shared widget styles (.w-verdict,
.w-table, .w-sub, .w-more) carry the widget-shape ruling for the widgets
that follow.

#5210 "Problems first, with since-time, across every list" (milestone 477),
second batch.

- Host page: an "Alerts on this host" strip first (rules on its agent
series, its containers or its monitors: alert_svc.watches_host); its
monitors problems first with "Down 12m · reason"; Docker above Ansible.
- Uptime page and widget: worst 24h uptime first, then 7d and 30d; hosts
  with no uptime yet last.
- Agent panel and fleet widget: last seen as "3m ago", not a clock time.
- SNMP: a device is "Reachable" only while it answered within the last 3
polls; older readings say "No answer" with their age, and every device
says when it was last read (was: reachable whenever any reading existed).
- Traefik: a router missing from 3 scrapes in a row is listed apart as no
longer reported, by when it was last seen, instead of keeping its last
state (a removed router stayed Failing).

CI / publish (push) Successful in 1m17s
#5210 "Problems first, with since-time, across every list" (milestone 477),
first batch.

- Alerts: the Active list reads firing, no data, acknowledged, pending, the
longest-running first, and re-polls itself. An acknowledged alert says how
long it has been breaching (from the alert's events; acknowledging moves
last_transition_at) and, apart from that, who acknowledged it and when.
Rules show what each is doing now; disabled rules sort last. The current
value reads the latest-value table (#5208) instead of plugin_metrics.
- Monitors: a down monitor says "Down 12m · connection refused" in the list.
- Hosts: sorted down, agent gone quiet, pending, healthy. The agent column
shows "—" for a missing reading (was 0%) and a Stale badge with its age.
agent_metrics_by_host is gone; the list reads agent_overview_by_host.
- Schedules: failing first (failed or interrupted run, or a firing that could
not start one), then running, then the rest, paused last; status badge
  from the shared states.
- Maintenance windows: active (ending soonest), then upcoming (starting
soonest), with expired folded away; each says when it ends/starts/ended.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 c9f5c049db feat(alerts): renames carry their alerts — monitor and host renames move rules, windows and history (#5065)
CI / lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 50s
CI / unit (push) Successful in 1m6s
CI / publish (push) Successful in 1m2s
#5065 "Renames carry their alerts". Alert rules, maintenance-window scopes
and metric history key a thing by (source, name), so a rename used to leave
the rules watching a name nothing reported under, and split the history.

- core/renames.carry_rename moves AlertRule.resource_name,
  MaintenanceWindow.scope_resource, plugin_metrics and plugin_metrics_hourly
to the new name in the caller's transaction. A host rename also carries
  its parts: host_agent "<host>:…" and docker "<host>/…" (HOST_SOURCES).
Matching is exact (a prefix compare, not LIKE or a collation range).
History left under the new name by something deleted is dropped first
  rather than merged in.
- Web monitor edit, MCP update_monitor and web host edit call it; MCP
answers with `carried` (it used to return a warning naming stranded rules).
- A name another monitor of the same type, or another host, already has is
refused on create and rename: two would share one history.
- The rename is audited (monitor.updated / host.renamed) with what moved.

Tests: an integration test renames a firing monitor through the web route
and finds its rule still firing and cleared by a sample on the new name,
its window and raw+hourly history moved and an orphan's history dropped; a
host rename moves agent and container parts but not a longer-named host's
or another source's; a guard that every host_agent resource is "<host>" or
"<host>:…".

CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s

#5034 "Playbook runs: path and inventory checks in trigger_run, connection
vars admin-only, confirm enforced server-side, web actions audited".
Ansible runs inside the Steward container, so an operator who could name
any playbook path, set ansible_connection=local or ProxyCommand ssh args,
or put {{ lookup('pipe', …) }} in a value could run commands on Steward.

- steward/ansible/guards.py: check_playbook (the source must list it),
check_inventory_scope (steward:* or an inventory file the source has),
  check_vars_for_role (ansible_* beyond host/port/user/password/become,
and any Jinja in a value, are admin-only), changed_vars (an edit is
held to the role only for what it changes).
- trigger_run applies the path checks, so every run path — web, MCP,
alerts, schedules, plugins — gets them.
- Variables are checked by role on the web run form, host-page runs,
  schedule create/update, inventory group/target create/update, and MCP
  run_playbook / create_schedule / update_schedule.
- A steward:confirm playbook needs the confirmation ticked on the server
side for a real (non-check) web run, as MCP already required.
- Audited: runs, cancel, schedule create/update/enable/disable/delete/
run-now, playbook create/update/delete, inventory group and target
create/update/delete (variable names only, never values). One
audit_request helper serves the web routes.
- The CSRF form guard and the route guard now each test that they fail
on a synthetic broken input (rule: a guard must be able to fail).

#5033 "Share links open only their own dashboard; every route without a
role is on an explicit allow-list". Any live share token in ?s= made the
caller a viewer on every viewer route — host pages, container logs, any
dashboard — and the host-agent widget routes had no role check at all.

- steward/dashboard/share.py: a share token opens, read-only, exactly the
widget fragment URLs its own dashboard loads — same path, same
configured parameters; only the time window (hours/range) may change.
- require_role marks its view; public_route marks the deliberately open
ones (login, setup, health, the share page, agent ingest, install.sh,
agent.py) with the reason. A before_request refuses any view with
neither, so a route that forgets its decorator is closed, not open.
- /plugins/host_agent/widget and /widget/history now require viewer.
- The history widget's range buttons keep the rest of the query (and so
a share link's token) instead of rebuilding it; the uptime widget's
"Full SLA" link shows to logged-in users, not to share viewers.
- tests/test_route_access.py: a source scan that fails on any unmarked
route in core or bundled plugins, the default-deny refusal, and the
  share matcher's cases.

MCP-3 of milestone 461 "MCP server: Steward as an LLM-inspectable,
LLM-operable hub". The /mcp tools run outside Quart's request pipeline, so
the queries they share with the pages now live in plain functions that take
an open session:

- steward/hosts/service.py: uptime, status, monitors, agent metrics,
agent overview (stale threshold passed in, not read from current_app),
  CPU sparks.
- plugins/docker/service.py: bucket, container_history, host_map,
  list_containers, container_events, query_logs.
- steward/alerts/service.py: active_alerts (also used by core/reports),
  list_rules, list_maintenance_windows.
- steward/monitors/service.py: monitor_rows (was routes._rows_data).

Routes are repointed and render the same data. One behavior fix rides
along: the container-log search now escapes % and _ so they match
literally instead of acting as LIKE wildcards.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 35f658b573 feat(monitors): unify ping/dns/http into one Monitor entity + custom targets
CI / unit (push) Successful in 8s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 2m17s
CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s
CI / publish (push) Successful in 1m10s
Collapse the three former check types into a single core `Monitor` entity
with one management surface (/monitors), one result table (monitor_results),
and a single scheduled task. Every type can now watch a free-standing custom
destination (optional host_id) — not just a registered Host.

- models: Monitor + MonitorResult replace PingResult/DnsResult; Host loses its
ping/dns facet columns (now Monitor rows linked by host_id).
- checks: monitors/{ping,dns,http}.py pure probes + runner.run_monitor
  dispatcher; one monitor_check scheduler with a per-monitor due-filter.
- status: single monitor_status_source replaces the three sources.
- UI: /monitors blueprint (type-aware add/edit/list/widget); host hub shows a
host's linked monitors + "add monitor for this host"; nav + widget registry
+ alert metric catalog rewired. http plugin folded into core and removed.
- migration 0022 merges the http branch, data-migrates host facets +
http_monitors + all three result histories, drops the old tables/columns.

Resolves the per-host ping/dns auto-attach issue (#275): monitors are now
explicit, never auto-added to every host.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 988c13d51f feat(dashboard): phase C richer panels — host time-series graph + cpu sparklines
CI / lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI / unit (push) Successful in 7s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 2m25s
CI / publish (push) Successful in 56s
Milestone 72 phase C — bring the host-view graphs onto the dashboard:
- host_resource_history widget reworked into a real host-view chart: epoch-ms
linear axis (no Chart.js date adapter), themed like the host-detail charts,
maintainAspectRatio:false so it fills the resized panel, unique canvas per
widget instance (wid), and empty states ("pick a host" / "no metrics yet").
Was previously unusable — it had a broken time axis and no way to choose a host.
- Add a "host" param type: the edit form renders a live dropdown of hosts
(dashboard routes now pass the host list to the editor); the chosen host_id is
stored in config and fed to the widget.
- Hosts-overview widget gains a per-row CPU sparkline (last hour) via the shared
sparkline_svg helper — the host-view at-a-glance trend, on the main widget.

Charts/sparklines render only in the browser, so CI can't exercise them — needs
an operator visual check.

- Host agent panel (reporting state) gains a "Re-provision" collapsible (admin +
linked target + managed key): bootstrap user/password → provision.yml, which
reinstalls the steward account + managed key + agent. This is the missing path
after regenerating the managed key — Update alone can't fix a broken key.
- Remove the Ansible sections (run-playbook + target link) from the host EDIT
page — they were the stale free-text version and the wrong place. They live on
the host detail hub (dropdown + discovered variables). Edit page now links to
the host page; edit_host route simplified (no ansible fetch).

Bring the dashboard in line with the unified host IA + improved displays.

- New core "Hosts — Overview" widget (/hosts/overview/widget): one row per host
combining monitor status (ping dot + latency, uptime 24h) with the agent
glance (CPU / memory / disk root + stale flag), each row linking to the host
hub. Reads agent data from the generic PluginMetric table via a core-safe
_agent_overview_by_host helper (no host_agent import); freshness vs the
plugin's stale window. The granular Ping/DNS/Uptime/Agent widgets stay.
- Group the add-widget picker into Core monitors / Monitoring capabilities /
Integrations (a `group` field on every WIDGET_REGISTRY entry + section
headings in _edit_panels.html), matching the Settings → Plugins taxonomy.
- Fix the agent fleet widget rows to link to the host hub (/hosts/<id>) instead
  of the old /plugins/host_agent/<id>/ page.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 ad726e65f3 feat(ansible): dropdown playbook selection + auto-populated variable fields

Stop making operators type playbook paths and guess extra-var names.

- Reusable infra: shared ansible/_playbook_vars.html (the discovered-variable
  fields) + ansible/_playbook_options.html; two HTMX endpoints —
/ansible/playbook-options (a source's playbooks, optional ?selected for edit)
  and /ansible/playbook-vars (a playbook's vars:/vars_prompt: as fill-in
fields). browse _run_form.html refactored to include the shared partial.
- Host "Run a playbook against this host": source dropdown → playbook dropdown
→ variable fields, all chained via HTMX. Handler reuses _parse_run_params so
var__/secret__ fields flow through extra_vars_map + the unpersisted
  secret_vars channel.
- Schedules: playbook free-text+datalist → source-dependent dropdown; fixed the
extra-vars edit pre-fill to read extra_vars_map (stale list key after the
  earlier JSON-extra-vars change).

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 f29255039d feat(hosts): Phase 2+3 — agent column, fold fleet + management into Hosts
CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s
CI / unit (push) Successful in 9s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 2m16s
CI / publish (push) Successful in 54s
- Hosts list: new Agent column (latest CPU/mem read from the generic
PluginMetric table — no host_agent import) + an admin "Agent fleet" button.
- /plugins/host_agent/ (old fleet page) now redirects to /hosts/ (folded into
the hub; kept as a redirect so widgets/links don't 404).
- Agent management moved off the "settings" URL: the management page is now
  /plugins/host_agent/fleet/ ("Agent fleet" — bulk provision/install/update +
registrations + curl install), reachable from the Hosts list. Old
/plugins/host_agent/settings/ redirects there. Per-host management lives on
the host detail page; this page is now explicitly the bulk/fleet view.

Milestone 70 phases 2-3. Phase 4 (plugins capability/integration split + nav
cleanup) next.

Make Hosts the front-and-center hub. A host now has a real detail page at
/hosts/<id> that pulls its facets into one view, instead of management being
scattered across a nav-less Host-Agents area and the edit form.

- hosts: new GET /hosts/<id> detail route + hosts/detail.html. Shows the
monitors summary (ping/DNS status + latency + uptime 24h/7d/30d), an Ansible
section (linked target, link/create, run-playbook), and an embedded Agent
panel. Hosts list name links here; ansible-link redirects here.
- host_agent: GET /plugins/host_agent/panel/<host_id> — a self-contained HTMX
fragment embedded into the core hub across the plugin boundary (core never
imports plugin models). Shows live agent metrics + Update/Rotate/Remove when
installed, or the provisioning path when not: inline "generate managed key"
warning, a prompt to link an Ansible target first, then Provision (bootstrap
password) / Install (managed key) tied to the host's target scope.

Part of milestone 70 (Hosts hub). Phase 2+ will enrich the list, redirect the
old fleet/settings pages, and re-taxonomize plugins into capabilities vs
integrations.

CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s
CI / unit (push) Successful in 8s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 2m19s
From a host's edit page, an operator can run a playbook against just that host
via an ephemeral one-host inventory — no need for the host to exist in a source
inventory.

- ansible/sources.py: pure host_inventory_content(host) -> '<name> ansible_host=<addr>'
- executor.start_run: optional inventory_content written to the temp dir and used
as -i (overrides inventory_path); cleaned up with the creds dir
- hosts/routes.py: POST /hosts/<id>/run-playbook (operator) — validates source +
playbook, builds the ephemeral inventory, starts a user-triggered run, redirects
to the live run detail; edit page gets the ansible source list
- hosts/form.html: 'Run Ansible playbook against this host' panel (shown when
editing an existing host and sources exist) — source + playbook + extra-vars/
  tags/dry-run (no --limit; single host)
- tests: unit host_inventory_content; integration runs a hosts:all/connection:local
playbook against the ephemeral inventory and asserts inventory_hostname

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.7 88ab5b917e chore: rename project Roundtable → Steward
Renames the Python package directory, CLI command, env var prefix,
docker-compose service/container/image, Postgres role/db, and all
visible branding. Marketing form is "Fabled Steward".

Clean break from the previous rebrand: drops the fabledscryer→roundtable
import shim in __init__.py and the FABLEDSCRYER_* env var fallback in
config.py and migrations/env.py. Env vars are now STEWARD_* only.

Heads-up for existing deployments:
- Postgres user/db renamed fabledscryer → steward in docker-compose.yml.
Existing volumes need the role/db renamed inside Postgres, or override
POSTGRES_USER/POSTGRES_DB to keep the old names.
- Host-agent systemd unit is now steward-agent.service. Existing agents
keep running under the old name; reinstall to switch.
