Step 2 of the Scribe -> Grimoire rename.
- src/scribe -> src/grimoire, and every import, patch target, module path,
hypercorn entry point and `python -m grimoire.restore` with it; pyproject,
uv.lock and the frontend package are named grimoire.
- Image git.fabledsword.com/bvandeusen/fabledgrimoire; CI's Postgres service
runs as grimoire / grimoire_test.
- Compose files default the DB user, database and (prod) volume to grimoire,
each overridable from .env, so an install created as Scribe keeps its data
by setting POSTGRES_USER, POSTGRES_DB and PGDATA_VOLUME.
- Backups are written as grimoire-<ts>.tar with format grimoire-backup-tar.
Archives named scribe-* with the scribe-backup-tar manifest still restore
and are still counted at the destination (folder and S3), with tests.
- Exports, the MCP auth realm, the ASGI scope key and the persistent logger
carry the new name.
Kept on purpose: the secret-sealing key label stays "scribe.secrets.v1",
because every stored secret was derived under it.
Plugin identity (plugin name, hooks, env vars, .scribe marker, skills) is
step 3.

Module and test docstrings state what is pinned without the record number
or step that introduced it. Incident accounts become the failure shape in
the present tense: the pipefail head, the code_shapes import, the export
order, the facet dialects, the cross-kind repeat, the write-once kind.

Derive-first, ahead of the tests shape pay-down. An AST pass over all 2628
definitions under `tests/` found exactly three helper bodies duplicated
across files. Two are real copies and are consolidated here; the third is
not, and is left alone.
`need_tools(*tools)` — byte-identical in three hook-test modules, each
skipping when `jq`/`awk`/`git` is absent from PATH. Now snippet #4277. The
`import shutil` each file carried existed only to serve it and goes with it.
`rule_row(rule_id)` — byte-identical in two integration modules, reading a
Rule back through a SEPARATE session so the assertion is about what Postgres
holds rather than what the writing session's identity map remembers. Now
snippet #4278. Its imports are lazy, because `tests/helpers.py` is imported
by unit tests that have no database, which is the same reason
`plugin_config` defers its service imports.
NOT consolidated: `_side(uid, k, d="")` in test_services_plugin_context and
test_write_path_trigger. The body is identical but it closes over a
module-local `stored` dict, so it is not self-contained and "moving" it
would mean inventing a parameter neither call site wants. That is convention
plumbing — two tests independently writing the same one-line side_effect —
and it is dismissed in the ledger rather than lifted.
Worth recording for the next pass: a repeated NAME is not a family. `_row`
is defined in five modules and only two of those share a body; the other
three (test_list_rows_brief, test_calibration_stamp, test_shape_ledger)
build entirely different objects. Grouping by name would have consolidated
three things that have nothing in common.

A rule's home is its reach: a rulebook topic makes it global, a project makes it
that project's. There was no way to change one, so a project rule decided to be
global could only be recreated and the original trashed — losing the id every
record cites, its edit history, its area tags and its relations.
- services.rulebooks.move_rule(rule_id, user_id, topic_id= | project_id=):
exactly one destination (the model's CHECK), owned by the caller, not the
rule's current home. A topic already holding a live rule with the same title
is refused with a message naming that rule, instead of uq_rule_per_topic
failing the commit. Someone else's rule reads as not found.
- Deliberately NOT done, and said in the docstring: no version (a version is
what a rule said, milestone 323 decision 4), no duplicate gate (nothing new
enters the corpus), no re-embed (retrieval reads the home at query time).
- Both doors: MCP move_rule, REST POST /api/rules/<id>/move (rule 33).
- UI: RuleHomePicker, one component in the rule editor (a global rule) and a
project's rules tab (a project rule), so the two cannot drift on what a
destination is.
- using-scribe names move_rule under "Where a new rule goes". Plugin
2026.09.15.1626.
Milestone 414 step 3.
