bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 753a6ccb31 feat(6866): the proxy hop count is an admin setting, and the server shows what each count reads

An admin can save how many reverse proxies stand in front of Grimoire.
A saved count wins over TRUSTED_PROXY_HOPS, which stays the starting
value. Each worker loads it at startup (under a deadline) and re-reads
it every 30s; the worker that saves applies it at once.

GET/PUT /api/admin/proxy returns the count, where it came from, and a
readout of the admin's own request: the socket peer, the forwarding
chains, what counts 0-3 would read, and the count that reads
Cloudflare's visitor when Cloudflare's headers are present. Saves are
audit-logged. A "too many attempts" reply now says where to look when
everyone is being blocked.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 55f0f96016 feat(6854): the server says which project a pending act would change, and whether this session may do it
CI & Build / Python lint (push) Successful in 2s
CI & Build / Python tests (push) Failing after 1m23s
CI & Build / Build & push image (push) Skipped
CI & Build / Plugin hooks (push) Failing after 11s
CI & Build / TypeScript typecheck (push) Successful in 32s
CI & Build / integration (push) Successful in 1m53s
GET /api/plugin/write-scope answers the plugin's fence. The session's project
comes from repo / project_id, as every plugin endpoint reads it. The act is
either:
- a directory (target_repo / target_project_id), for a file edit or a git
  command; or
- an MCP call (tool, plus input: the call's short arguments).

It returns allowed, the other projects the act would change, and the reason
the operator is asked. It is a GET so a read-scoped key still fences file
edits and git.

services/write_scope.WRITE_TARGETS lists every write tool with the arguments
that locate its write: a project id, or a task, note, milestone, System, rule,
relation, trash batch, repo or family decision, each traced to its project. A
write that lands in no project (install settings, user-level records, the
judgments a session is asked for anywhere) has an empty entry. The one
cross-project write allowed is create_task(kind="issue") as a new, unplanned,
open issue. A project the caller cannot read is never named.

tests/test_write_scope.py:
- requires an entry for every write tool;
- requires every declared argument to exist on the tool;
- refuses a locating argument (project_id, task_id, milestone_id and the
rest) that a write tool takes without declaring it.

The integration test traces each locator from real rows.

Milestone 583, step 2.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 37be3b0bff feat(6849): the command-line restore uses the same rollback, and the docs say how restore works now
CI & Build / Plugin hooks (push) Successful in 11s
CI & Build / Python lint (push) Successful in 2s
CI & Build / TypeScript typecheck (push) Successful in 31s
CI & Build / Python tests (push) Successful in 1m39s
CI & Build / integration (push) Successful in 1m49s
CI & Build / Build & push image (push) Successful in 31s
python -m grimoire.restore <file> prints what the restore would change (the
same preview as Settings) and stops. With --yes it runs
backup_job.rollback_to_backup: the current state is saved first, then the
whole instance goes back to the backup. An empty instance takes any full
backup. A live one only takes a backup of its own, and otherwise exits 3 with
the reason. A v1 backup keeps the copy-in path into an empty instance.

docs/backups.md Restoring is rewritten:
- what a restore puts back and removes;
- the same-instance rule;
- the safety backup;
- what survives;
- the web and command-line ways in.

Its S3 key advice now asks for read as well as write when restoring from the
bucket. README, features, architecture and the API reference follow.

Milestone 582, step 5.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 0f5ef0be63 rename(547): the server is grimoire — package, image, DB defaults, backups
CI & Build / Python lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI & Build / Plugin hooks (push) Successful in 12s
CI & Build / TypeScript typecheck (push) Successful in 56s

CI & Build / Build & push image (push) Successful in 44s
Step 2 of the Scribe -> Grimoire rename.

- src/scribe -> src/grimoire, and every import, patch target, module path,
hypercorn entry point and `python -m grimoire.restore` with it; pyproject,
uv.lock and the frontend package are named grimoire.
- Image git.fabledsword.com/bvandeusen/fabledgrimoire; CI's Postgres service
  runs as grimoire / grimoire_test.
- Compose files default the DB user, database and (prod) volume to grimoire,
each overridable from .env, so an install created as Scribe keeps its data
  by setting POSTGRES_USER, POSTGRES_DB and PGDATA_VOLUME.
- Backups are written as grimoire-<ts>.tar with format grimoire-backup-tar.
Archives named scribe-* with the scribe-backup-tar manifest still restore
and are still counted at the destination (folder and S3), with tests.
- Exports, the MCP auth realm, the ASGI scope key and the persistent logger
  carry the new name.

Kept on purpose: the secret-sealing key label stays "scribe.secrets.v1",
because every stored secret was derived under it.

Plugin identity (plugin name, hooks, env vars, .scribe marker, skills) is
step 3.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 e99f1169f7 rename(547): what people read says Grimoire

Step 1 of the Scribe -> Grimoire rename: every capitalised "Scribe" in prose
becomes "Grimoire" ("Fabled Scribe" -> "Fabled Grimoire") across the UI,
the PWA manifest and page title, the MCP instructions and tool docstrings,
hook and skill text, docs and README, with the tests that assert on that
prose moving with it. Old migrations keep their wording.

Identifiers are untouched here: the package, plugin name, MCP server key,
hook file names, env vars, the .scribe marker and FabledScribe repo/image
names move in steps 2 and 3, along with prose that quotes them.

The sweep matched "Scribe" only as a whole word, so describe/subscribe and
friends are untouched. The longer name took the MCP instructions one
character over their 1,600 budget; two phrases are shortened to fit.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 54206afa76 fix(6229): remove the Profile settings page — nothing read it
CI & Build / Python lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI & Build / Plugin hooks (push) Successful in 12s
CI & Build / TypeScript typecheck (push) Successful in 53s
CI & Build / integration (push) Successful in 1m9s

The Profile tab said an assistant used it to personalise chat and a daily
journal. Neither exists, and nothing read the profile: the page saved to
user_profiles and the backup carried it. Removed the tab, the client calls,
/api/profile, the service and the model, and migration 0123 drops the table
(downgrade recreates it empty).

Backup format v27 stops writing user_profiles; an older archive carrying the
section still restores, and the file-restore integration test now proves it.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 47d40bffd8 docs: architecture, configuration, development and features describe Scribe as it is today
Milestone 544, step 6217 (follow-up to #1778, which rewrote features.md and
api-reference.md in July but left architecture.md and configuration.md alone).

- architecture.md, configuration.md, development.md: rewritten against the
code. They still described Ollama, chat, SSE generation, voice, project
summaries, image caching, Docker secrets that the compose files don't use,
a raw-SQL migration convention the migrations no longer follow, a 27-entry
migration list, CalVer YY.MM.DD.N tags and the removed infra/ files.
- features.md: adds what shipped since July (spikes, claims, moments, rule
versions and verification, lessons, reply shapes, snippets and the shape
ledger, forge integration, family canon, design systems, retrieval tuning)
and corrects the Settings tabs and keyboard shortcuts (g g is the graph).
- api-reference.md: adds the endpoints for snippets, lessons, design
systems, family canon, platforms, shared areas, retrieval, rule versions,
relations and verification, forge connections, webhooks, scheduled
backups and the newer plugin hooks.
- api-keys-and-mcp.md: Settings tab is "MCP Access"; a plugin install
section; the tool-family table matches the tools that exist.
- design-system.md: the dated "decisions in progress" changelog (April
PR log, chat/journal/calendar surfaces) becomes a short present-tense
section; the stored design system is named as the authority.
- sso-oauth.md: the app is Scribe, not "Fabled Assistant".
- README: feature summary and doc table brought current.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5 4e4020c040 feat(rules): move a rule between global and project scope, keeping its id, history, areas and edges (#4063)
CI & Build / Python lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI & Build / Plugin hooks (push) Successful in 10s
CI & Build / integration (push) Successful in 54s
CI & Build / TypeScript typecheck (push) Successful in 55s
CI & Build / Python tests (push) Successful in 1m41s
CI & Build / Build & push image (push) Successful in 33s
A rule's home is its reach: a rulebook topic makes it global, a project makes it
that project's. There was no way to change one, so a project rule decided to be
global could only be recreated and the original trashed — losing the id every
record cites, its edit history, its area tags and its relations.

- services.rulebooks.move_rule(rule_id, user_id, topic_id= | project_id=):
exactly one destination (the model's CHECK), owned by the caller, not the
rule's current home. A topic already holding a live rule with the same title
is refused with a message naming that rule, instead of uq_rule_per_topic
failing the commit. Someone else's rule reads as not found.
- Deliberately NOT done, and said in the docstring: no version (a version is
what a rule said, milestone 323 decision 4), no duplicate gate (nothing new
enters the corpus), no re-embed (retrieval reads the home at query time).
- Both doors: MCP move_rule, REST POST /api/rules/<id>/move (rule 33).
- UI: RuleHomePicker, one component in the rule editor (a global rule) and a
project's rules tab (a project rule), so the two cannot drift on what a
  destination is.
- using-scribe names move_rule under "Where a new rule goes". Plugin
  2026.09.15.1626.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5 0bcd4b5540 feat(rules)!: retire rulebook subscriptions and per-project suppressions (#4052)
CI & Build / Python lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI & Build / Plugin hooks (push) Successful in 13s
CI & Build / integration (push) Successful in 49s
CI & Build / TypeScript typecheck (push) Successful in 57s
CI & Build / Python tests (push) Failing after 1m3s
CI & Build / Build & push image (push) Skipped
A rule's home is its scope now: a rule in a rulebook topic is global, a rule on
a project applies to that project, and retrieval reads that directly (#4074).
A subscription had stopped changing anything a session received; a suppression
muted rules from a subscription. Operator, 2026-09-15: "we have global and
project scoped rules, we don't need the subscriptions now."

What goes, whole (rule 22):
- Migration 0101 drops project_rulebook_subscriptions, project_rule_suppressions
  and project_topic_suppressions, and strips subscribe_rulebooks (and 394's
leftover exclude_always_on_rulebooks) from stored inception choices.
- Service, MCP and REST: subscribe/unsubscribe and the four suppress/unsuppress
operations. The Subscribers checklist, the subscribe chips, the skip buttons
and the Suppressed section in the rules UI.
- Inception asks two questions (design system, seed Systems). create_project and
  decide_project_inception lose subscribe_rulebooks.
- Backup v15 stops exporting the three sections; older archives still restore,
the keys simply unread. Trash no longer hard-deletes suppression rows.

What changes meaning:
- get_applicable_rules is a project's LISTING: its own rules, plus the global
rules tagged to an area it works in. Untagged global rules apply everywhere
and arrive by retrieval, so they are not listed. A co_surfaces partner on a
different project is not dragged in.
- list_rules(project_id) lists that project's own rules.
- rules_payload drops subscribed_rulebooks and suppressed_*; the handshake's
  brief form is project_rules alone.
- using-scribe's "Where a new rule goes" and inception sections, tool
docstrings and docs say global vs project. Plugin 2026.09.15.1620.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 d2f08d6113 docs(scribe): rewrite features/api-reference/README to the current product
Resolves issue #1778 — the docs still described the pre-pivot product (in-app
LLM chat, journal, weather, web-research, push, model management) plus the
just-removed calendar/entities.

- features.md: full rewrite to the actual surfaces — notes, tasks & issues,
projects/milestones (kanban), systems, rules & rulebooks, stored processes,
search + knowledge-injection, graph, MCP + the Claude Code plugin, sharing,
  export/backup (v4), OIDC. Dropped chat/journal/weather/web-research/calendar/
push/workspace/model-management; fixed the shortcuts + settings tables.
- api-reference.md: rewrite to the real endpoint surface (verified from the
  route decorators) — added Knowledge/Rulebooks/Systems/Plugin/Trash/Dashboard
  and the milestone/system sub-routes; removed Chat/Journal/Push/Quick-Capture/
  Images/assist/models.
- README.md: Quick Start no longer tells users to pull an Ollama model or size
RAM/GPU "for LLM inference" — points at the API key + plugin instead.

The old standalone fable-mcp wheel/download flow is gone from code (no route,
no Dockerfile build, no FABLE_MCP_DIST_DIR). Update api-keys-and-mcp,
api-reference, architecture, configuration, development to describe the
in-app HTTP MCP at /mcp (Bearer auth). Untrack the 18 committed
docs/superpowers/ files so the existing .gitignore takes effect.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.7 016a2bd270 docs: clear briefing remnants and document journal system
The Briefing system was retired weeks ago and replaced with the
conversational Journal, but several current-state docs still
described it as live. Updates:

architecture.md
- settings keys: briefing_enabled / briefing_locations / office_days →
journal_config (JSON: locations, temp_unit, prep schedule)
- conversation_type: chat/briefing/mcp → chat/journal/mcp
- briefing_date column → day_date on Conversation
- "Briefing-Related Tables" section: dropped rss_feeds + rss_items
rows (retired with PR #43); kept weather_cache and clarified that
lat/lon now live in journal_config.locations, not on the cache row
- routes/chat.py description: dropped trailing "briefing conversation
  routes" mention
- routes/briefing.py → routes/journal.py with the current endpoint
  shape (config / today / day / days / weather / moments / trigger-
  prep)
- services/briefing_pipeline + scheduler + conversations + profile →
  services/journal_prep + journal_pipeline + journal_scheduler +
  journal_search/moments + user_profile.build_profile_context

features.md
- "Daily Briefing" section rewritten as "Daily Journal":
conversational, single morning prep, right rail with weather +
upcoming events, profile-tab configuration, "what the assistant
  has learned" framing
- Settings table: dropped Briefing tab row, added Profile tab row,
fixed Notifications row's stale briefing-push reference

api-reference.md
- /api/briefing/* endpoints replaced with /api/journal/* — config,
  today/day/days, trigger-prep, weather (cached/current/refresh/
  geocode), moments
