bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 c5eeec471f rename(547): the plugin is grimoire — manifest, MCP key, hooks, env, skills

Step 3 of the Scribe -> Grimoire rename.

- Plugin `grimoire` in marketplace `grimoire-plugin`, MCP server key
  `grimoire`, so tools reach a session as mcp__plugin_grimoire_grimoire__*.
- hooks/scribe_* -> hooks/grimoire_*, their shell functions and the TMPDIR
  ledgers with them; SCRIBE_URL / SCRIBE_TOKEN / SCRIBE_HOOK_DIR /
  SCRIBE_LEDGER_DIRS -> GRIMOIRE_*; the project marker is `.grimoire`.
- skills/using-scribe -> using-grimoire, /grimoire:sync, stored processes
  arrive as grimoire-proc-<slug>; moment_actions names them the same way.
- Migration 0124 rewrites stored skill names (rule_moments,
  rule_moment_judgments, moment_mappings) from scribe:/scribe-proc- to
  grimoire:/grimoire-proc-, so a rule mounted on a skill keeps firing.
- Settings' install commands and MCP-only defaults, the docs and the
  tests follow.
- scripts/check_plugin.py drops the smoke event for a report-check hook
  that has no file in plugin/hooks.

Kept on purpose: the secret-sealing label, and the names that let backups
written as Scribe restore and be counted.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 0f5ef0be63 rename(547): the server is grimoire — package, image, DB defaults, backups

CI & Build / Plugin hooks (push) Successful in 12s
CI & Build / TypeScript typecheck (push) Successful in 56s

CI & Build / Build & push image (push) Successful in 44s
Step 2 of the Scribe -> Grimoire rename.

- src/scribe -> src/grimoire, and every import, patch target, module path,
  hypercorn entry point and `python -m grimoire.restore` with it; pyproject,
  uv.lock and the frontend package are named grimoire.
- Image git.fabledsword.com/bvandeusen/fabledgrimoire; CI's Postgres service
  runs as grimoire / grimoire_test.
- Compose files default the DB user, database and (prod) volume to grimoire,
  each overridable from .env, so an install created as Scribe keeps its data
  by setting POSTGRES_USER, POSTGRES_DB and PGDATA_VOLUME.
- Backups are written as grimoire-<ts>.tar with format grimoire-backup-tar.
  Archives named scribe-* with the scribe-backup-tar manifest still restore
  and are still counted at the destination (folder and S3), with tests.
- Exports, the MCP auth realm, the ASGI scope key and the persistent logger
  carry the new name.

Kept on purpose: the secret-sealing key label stays "scribe.secrets.v1",
because every stored secret was derived under it.

Plugin identity (plugin name, hooks, env vars, .scribe marker, skills) is
step 3.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 e99f1169f7 rename(547): what people read says Grimoire

Step 1 of the Scribe -> Grimoire rename: every capitalised "Scribe" in prose
becomes "Grimoire" ("Fabled Scribe" -> "Fabled Grimoire") across the UI,
the PWA manifest and page title, the MCP instructions and tool docstrings,
hook and skill text, docs and README, with the tests that assert on that
prose moving with it. Old migrations keep their wording.

Identifiers are untouched here: the package, plugin name, MCP server key,
hook file names, env vars, the .scribe marker and FabledScribe repo/image
names move in steps 2 and 3, along with prose that quotes them.

The sweep matched "Scribe" only as a whole word, so describe/subscribe and
friends are untouched. The longer name took the MCP instructions one
character over their 1,600 budget; two phrases are shortened to fit.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 914f31359c docs(6209): the remaining test files — lessons, reply moment and shape, retrieval specs and scopes, rule doors and judgments, services, snippets, search scope; five tests renamed to their property
CI & Build / Python lint (push) Successful in 5s
CI & Build / Plugin hooks (push) Successful in 17s
CI & Build / TypeScript typecheck (push) Successful in 57s
CI & Build / integration (push) Successful in 1m19s
CI & Build / Python tests (push) Successful in 2m2s
CI & Build / Build & push image (push) Successful in 15s
Docstrings, section headers and assertion messages drop the record number,
milestone or step that introduced the behaviour, and incident accounts are
restated as the present-tense failure shape. A dead pointer to a design doc
that is not in the repo is removed.

Renamed to the property they check:
  test_the_old_shape_would_be_caught -> test_a_rank_then_scope_query_is_caught
  test_a_ledger_repeat_no_longer_produces_that_case_at_all -> test_a_ledger_repeat_is_counted_not_withheld
  test_the_header_no_longer_promises_once_per_session -> test_the_header_explains_the_seen_marker
  test_the_portal_case_no_longer_stamps_one_canon_onto_a_whole_file -> test_one_canon_is_not_stamped_onto_a_whole_file
  test_the_repos_own_prose_no_longer_defines_with -> test_the_repos_own_prose_does_not_define_with
  test_the_original_regression_create_note_with_content -> test_the_real_server_refuses_content_on_create_note

Fixture and example ids stay: "note 5" in a supersession chain, "rule 156"
in an illustrative question, `#2275` as the hex-versus-citation case,
`#3244` as the example of a bare number, fixed dates in date-filter tests.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5.5 d5dad587f1 refactor(skills): using-scribe keeps the every-turn practices; moment-specific depth moves to reference files (#4398)

CI & Build / TypeScript typecheck (push) Successful in 55s

Anthropic's skill guidance: keep SKILL.md under 500 lines, split into
reference files linked one level deep as it nears that. using-scribe was
478 and every new practice lands there.

- SKILL.md 478 -> 317 lines. It keeps orientation, one copy, the reflexes,
  scope, the judge section, UI and the process-skill index, plus a "Read
  these when the moment comes" list naming each file with its moment.
- projects.md: binding a non-git directory (.scribe) and project inception.
- writing-records.md: where a new rule goes, lesson growth, and notes that
  carry their own check (reflex 10 keeps a pointer).
- missed-retrieval.md: the record-before-dial route, verbatim.
- Text moved, not rewritten, except for the seams and one cross-reference.

Tests:
- tests.helpers.skill_text reads SKILL.md plus its reference files. The
  ownership registry, the miss-route and the verification tests use it, so
  a topic stays owned by its skill whichever file holds it.
- The force test scans every skill .md on its own, since each file is read
  on its own.
- New test_skill_structure: SKILL.md <= 350 lines, every reference file is
  linked from SKILL.md, none links another, and one over 100 lines opens
  with Contents. Each guard is shown to fail.

The plugin version is minted. That also clears 4fb53b8's red Plugin hooks
lane, which failed only because PACKAGING.md changed without a mint.

bvandeusen 1d65e98ac2 docs(notes): the surfaces say WHEN a note earns a check, and a guard keeps them saying it (#3168, milestone 317 step 5)
CI & Build / Python lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI & Build / TypeScript typecheck (push) Successful in 33s
CI & Build / Plugin hooks (push) Successful in 10s
CI & Build / integration (push) Successful in 43s
CI & Build / Python tests (push) Successful in 1m16s
CI & Build / Build & push image (push) Successful in 28s
The step that decides whether steps 1-4 were worth building. `verify_with` is
a free-text field on the highest-volume record kind in the product; described
only as "how to verify this note" it gets filled in on every note within a
week, and at that point the sweep returns the whole corpus and means nothing.
The signal is not "has a check" — it is "has a check AND almost nothing else
does".

Rule 119 puts this in the app's own instruction surfaces, never in a Scribe
rule. So:

- the using-scribe skill gains the reflex, next to "state updates in place;
  chronicles don't" — its other half, since supersession only fires once
  somebody has read a note and disagreed, which is the case where it was
  already believed;
- update_note's docstring now states the DEFAULT rather than only deferring
  to create_note for the test. Found by the new guard on its first run;
- plugin 0.1.48.

THE _INSTRUCTIONS BUDGET, decided rather than skipped. The payload is ~1980 of
the client's ~2048-char cap, so everything in it competes for the last ~68
characters. The operator declined a line for this milestone: the map's own
closing sentence says each tool's description carries the full contract, and
the sweep is a curation act rather than a session-start reflex like
enter_project or list_always_on_rules. That reasoning is now a comment beside
the constant, with the accepted cost named — an agent that never opens
create_note's docstring never learns the field exists — so the question is not
re-litigated blind.

The guard pins STRUCTURE, never wording, for the disambiguator's reason (a
test that punishes rewriting is a test that gets deleted): each write surface
must still draw the norm-vs-constraint distinction, say the empty case is
normal, and name where NOT to reach for it — plus that the skill carries the
one-question form, because the docstrings only reach a caller who already
opened the tool.

`_doc` moves to tests/helpers as `tool_doc`; it had been written twice.
