Operator: "the filters in the latest feed, drop down but don't have values". Two separate causes:

- Platform: PostsFilterBar built its items from `platformsStore.platforms`. The platforms store has never had that property; it exposes `list` and `byKey`. The read returned undefined, `|| []` turned that into an empty list, and nothing failed. ArtistsView had copied the same read, so the Browse → Artists platform filter was empty too. Both now read `list` and show platform names rather than raw keys.

- Artist: the autocomplete searched the server only after something was typed (autocomplete returns [] for an empty query by design, which its tests pin). Opening the dropdown therefore showed an empty menu. PostsFilterBar now loads every artist once from a new lightweight `GET /api/artists/names` (id, name, slug; alphabetical; no joins) and filters client-side, so the list is there on open. A deep-linked artist_id now also shows the artist's real name instead of "Artist #id".

Guard: frontend/test/storeUsage.spec.js scans src for `platformsStore.<name>` and fails on any name the store doesn't define, since the frontend CI has no type-checker to catch this. A positive control shows the shipped `platformsStore.platforms` read is flagged, and a vacuity check confirms the scan really walks the tree.

tests/test_api_artists_create.py covers /names.

Operator live review of #253 on the wide window. The images landed well, but:

- "the left rail feels like wasted space". The filters and check status move back into one row above the feed (PostsView). On a wide window the row lines up with the feed column, clear of the day gutter, and the container recentres without the 280px rail. The narrow layout is as before, with the status still first. This retires #407 option E; A and D stay.

- The "you can't see" link landed on the Subscriptions reconcile card, which listed 9 sources as `former_patron` under "sources your roster doesn't account for". The operator doesn't want sources they no longer pay for listed there, and wants the card dismissable "unless something changes":
  - MembershipReconcileCard renders only "creators you subscribe to but don't follow here" and the stale-roster warning.
  - Stopping pulls on lapsed sources is the membership sweep's job instead (#3995, next).
  - A close button dismisses the card. The dismissal is keyed to a fingerprint of what the card says (offered membership ids plus stale-roster flags), so a new subscription or a roster going stale brings it back. It's stored per browser, which is enough for a single-operator instance.

The backend still computes tracked_not_subscribed. #3995 acts on it.

On the operator's 3432px window the feed was a 900px column, 26% of the width. They picked three options from a to-scale layout study.

A — filmstrip card (PostCard.vue):
- A card measures itself with a ResizeObserver. At 1100px or wider its hero gets a fixed height, clamp(260px, 34vh, 460px), and the extra images move into a 2-column grid of squares beside it. The grid cells are sized from the hero height, so the grid ends flush with the hero.
- The rail cap is 4 cells in this layout (2×2, the last becoming "+N") and 5 in the narrow layout, which is unchanged.
- The description clamp drops to 4 lines, because long reads happen in the expanded view.
- The hero has a height, not a width, so a wide card can't grow into a full-screen post. That was the operator's constraint.

D — day gutter (PostsView.vue):
- The normal feed groups consecutive posts by local day (Today, Yesterday, a weekday, or a date), with post and artist counts for what has loaded.
- Runs rather than date buckets, because the sort key includes resurfaced_at, which the payload doesn't carry. A resurfaced grouping gets its own heading where it actually appears, instead of being pulled out of order.

E — filter rail (PostsView.vue):
- At 1600px and wider, the filters and status ribbon stack in a sticky 280px left rail, and each day's heading sits in a sticky 150px gutter beside its posts.
- Below 1600px the layout is exactly the old one, including the 900px column.

The in-context (post_id) view gets the wide column but no rail or day grouping, so anchor scrolling is untouched.

The front door is now a feed, and a blank feed implies things should be
here in a way a blank masonry does not. On a fresh install this is the
first screen anyone sees — including someone who is not the operator,
which is what milestone 328 is making possible.

Tells the two empties apart, which is the point. "No sources yet" gets
the on-ramp; "sources configured, nothing landed yet" gets told that
the first check takes a while and pointed at Downloads. Telling someone
to add a source when they already have three and are mid-backfill reads
as the app not knowing its own state.

Needs total_sources on schedule-status to distinguish them —
deliberately not auto_sources, which counts only what is on a schedule,
so a source with auto_check off would have read as "nothing
configured". Both exact-shape assertions updated in THIS change rather
than after CI caught them, which is the lesson from B3's red push.

An absent status falls back to the on-ramp on purpose: it is merely
redundant to an established operator, whereas "see what's running"
shown to someone with nothing configured is a dead end.

A filtered miss is deliberately NOT the onboarding case — the operator
has posts, they just narrowed past them. Showing a fresh-install
on-ramp there would tell someone with a full library to go set it up.

This is where logo.svg lands, as the operator asked. It earns its place
on a first-run screen and not on a populated feed, and gives the
on-ramp something to compose around instead of prose plus two buttons.
Large: the mark stops reading below ~48px, which is why the 22px nav
slot has a different one. Pinned by test so a later tidy-up cannot
quietly shrink it to a glyph.

Also extracts mountWithStore into the shared test support module.
Writing the second spec created exactly the copy-paste that open issue
3109 tracks for the backend row factories, so it is consolidated now
rather than at copy three, and recorded as snippet 3829 with the two
traps it does NOT solve — named slots rendering nothing, and
components that fetch on mount.

The step phase A was building toward. A1 made the gated count true, A2
made it a durable state, A3 made it visible in Subscriptions — but
Subscriptions is where you go once you already suspect something. This
is the line that reaches someone who wasn't looking.

A thin grey strip above the feed, front door only: last check, sources
failing, sources you can't see. Only the actionable items take a
colour, and nothing renders at zero — a permanent "0 failing" trains
you to skip the line, which would hide the real number when it appears.

Two predicates, defined once. The ribbon counts and the surfaces it
links to have to agree on what "failing" and "no access" MEAN, or the
ribbon says 3 and the card shows 4. They live in db_helpers, which
exists for exactly this reason (its docstring: divergent copies are how
the race bugs crept in). Not in source_service, because
scheduler_service needs them too and source_service already imports
scheduler_service — the other direction is a cycle.

Counting deliberately spans all ENABLED sources rather than the
auto_check subset scheduler_status already walks: a source erroring on
a manual-only artist is still erroring. Disabled sources count for
nothing, which is what makes issue 1285 the real escape hatch for a sub
you stopped paying for.

Extends the existing schedule-status endpoint rather than adding a
parallel aggregate — the store already fetches it. Two scalar COUNTs.

The status filter is now URL-addressable, which it had to be for the
ribbon's links to land anywhere: a count that drops you on an
unfiltered list makes the reader redo the filtering the ribbon just
did. Mirrors how artistFilter already reads from route.query.

Front-door-only via a route prop, not a route.name check, so the view
doesn't need to know what it's mounted as and the router states the
intent in one place. Inside Browse's Posts tab you're looking FOR
something and the hub is one click away.

The fetch is swallowed on mount by design (rule 164): this is an aside,
and the feed must render whether or not the status call succeeds.

Moves FRONT_DOOR from /showcase to /latest. Showcase is a random
TABLESAMPLE — lean-back, and it can never tell you anything is wrong.
The feed is the only view where a failing source surfaces on its own,
as a creator who has gone quiet. The per-artist "new since last visit"
badges (#597) were a workaround for this view not being the door.

Showcase is demoted to a nav entry, not removed. Nothing is being
replaced, so rule 22's delete-the-legacy-path does not apply.

Deviation from the filed plan, deliberate: the step said write a new
LatestView.vue. Rejected — PostsView is ALREADY a self-contained feed
(own container, own store, infinite scroll, filters, deep-link
anchoring, empty state), and Browse only ever wrapped it in a tab
strip. A new view would have duplicated 231 working lines to gain
nothing. Mounting PostsView directly at its own route IS the whole
difference the promotion was after: a door you arrive at, not a hub
you navigate out of. Rule 28.

Backend untouched, as scoped — PostFeedService.scroll already does
cursor-paginated newest-first.

Two things this shook loose:

PostsView's deep-link "All posts" button was a hard `{ name: 'posts' }`,
which redirects into Browse. Correct while the view only ever rendered
inside Browse's tab; from the front door it would have yanked the
operator sideways into a different surface. Now returns to the current
route minus post_id, so Browse keeps its tab and any active scope.

The README claimed "A Showcase front page". That block is the SOURCE
the release notes quote (scripts/release_notes.py product_overview),
not a generated copy, so it is fixed here — a document contradicting
the code is the characteristic defect of the public-surface area.

No stickyChrome on the route: unlike Browse/Gallery/Settings this view
has no sticky sub-header for the nav to butt against.

The router spec pinned FRONT_DOOR to /showcase and now pins /latest,
plus that Showcase stayed reachable and in the nav — the demotion is
asserted, not assumed.

The surface shipped at /system with no nav entry, reachable only by
clicking the health dot beside the brand — a target you have to already
suspect something is wrong to go looking for. Operator-flagged: it needs
a path someone can walk to.

Settings is where you go to ask the instance about itself, so the view
becomes a tab there, beside Activity — Activity answers "what is the
queue doing", System answers "is anything left to do it".

- SystemView.vue moves to components/settings/SystemHealthTab.vue; the
content is unchanged apart from shedding its own container and h1.
- SettingsView adopts useTabQuery (the composable Browse and
Subscriptions already use) so a tab can be linked TO. The health dot
now points at ?tab=system, and /system redirects there so the previous
build's link and any bookmark still land.
- The tab drops its own 10s poll. v-window keeps a visited item mounted
rather than destroyed, so that timer would have gone on firing behind
Maintenance — and TopNav already polls the same store every 15s for
  the dot.

The ask was a surface AND a path. The path is the part that was missing —
everything that could answer "is it running" lived inside Settings, which you
only open once you already suspect something.

**Re-used the indicator that already existed rather than adding a fourth.**
There were three partial surfaces: TopNav's health dot, PipelineStatusChip's
pulse, and the Settings Activity tab. None answered "is every part alive", and
a fourth would have made the question harder to answer, not easier.

TopNav's dot read /api/health — a no-DB liveness check proving only that the
WEB container is serving. Green there while a worker was dead is exactly what
it looked like, and a green dot beside the product name gets read as
"everything is fine". It now reflects the whole-stack verdict, and it is a
link: the place someone already looks when they suspect something is now also
the way to the detail.

The tooltip names the actual problem. "Scheduler has not checked in for 6 min"
sends someone somewhere; "something is unhealthy" sends them hunting.

/system is deliberately NOT in the nav row — TopNav builds that from routes
with a meta.title, and a sixth top-level tab for a page visited twice a year
costs more attention than it returns. It is reached from the dot.

The page lists every learned part with its state as a sentence rather than a
chip, and prints the staleness thresholds it was judged by, taken from the
endpoint so the UI keeps no second copy of them. PipelineStatusChip still
hand-rolls its own 3-minute scheduler window; that is now a duplicate of a
threshold the server owns, and worth collapsing once this has been watched
working.

The stores stay separate on purpose: system.js is "can I reach the API",
systemActivity.js is "what is the pipeline doing", systemHealth.js is "is
anything broken". Running and alive fail independently — an idle stack with a
dead worker looks identical to a healthy one on every activity surface, which
is the whole reason this milestone exists.

Not yet verified against a real stopped service. Rule 12 keeps a local stack
out of it, and frontend CI has no Vue type-check or visual regression, so this
needs an operator look rather than a green lane.

CI / integration (push) Successful in 3m52s
A dim line at the foot of Settings: `FabledCurator 2026.08.28.1249 · dev`.

This is no longer a convenience. Milestone 318 stopped publishing version
image tags, so an instance's own report is the ONLY answer to "which build is
this?" — there is no registry name left to check it against. Note #3127 §5
says it directly: a wrong answer here has no second source to contradict it.

Three states, kept distinct because collapsing any two of them lies:

  not asked yet render nothing
  asked, no version render "unknown"
asked, has a version render it

A blank footer reads as "no version", which is a different claim from "I
cannot say". And a failed health call deliberately does NOT mark the build
loaded — a network blip says nothing about the image, and presenting it as
"unknown" would look like a defective build.

Carried on /api/health rather than a new route: it answers at the same cost
(two module constants, no I/O) and TopNav already fetches it app-wide, so a
separate endpoint would mean a second request for two strings.

Both fields are OMITTED when unset rather than sent empty. Absence already
means "cannot say" — an image predating the field says exactly that by not
having the key — so a second spelling would make every reader special-case
it. The pre-existing test asserting the body is EXACTLY {"status": "ok"} is
what keeps a well-meaning `or ""` default from creeping in.

FC_CHANNEL now has one definition. It was read from the environment in
extension.py and would have been read again here; the new build_info module
holds both, and extension.py binds it as a module-level name so existing
tests monkeypatch it exactly as before. Separate from config.py on purpose:
those are operator settings meant to be changed, these describe the artifact.

Channel sits beside the version, never inside it (rule 149), asserted from
both ends. A `-dev` suffix would read as a 0 segment to the extension's
parseInt comparator and make every dev build compare equal — #2993 exactly.

Not hidden, per the operator and §7: the JS bundle and asset hashes
fingerprint the build anyway, and "I'm on 2026.08.28.1249" is the single most
useful line in a bug report.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 5 2e0f8f8c61 feat(cleanup): reclaim orphaned attachments — rows and store blobs (#3068)
CI / extension-version (push) Successful in 3s
CI / backend-lint-and-test (push) Successful in 28s
CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s
CI / frontend-build (push) Successful in 24s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 3m47s
PostAttachment's two FKs are both ON DELETE SET NULL, so a deleted post or
artist left the row behind rather than taking it. Nothing ever pruned those
rows, and nothing in the repo had ever unlinked a file under the attachment
store — so both rows and bytes accumulated permanently, invisible to every
existing diagnostic.

Why a disk->DB reconciliation rather than a row sweep: the store is
sha-addressed and idempotent, so ONE blob backs MANY rows. Deleting a row
does not free its blob, and since the artist cascade (#3066) now deletes
its attachment rows outright, a freed blob has no DB pointer left to find
it by. Walking the store and asking "does any row still reference this
sha?" catches orphans from every cause, including ones no future delete
path will think to report.

Preview and apply share `_orphan_attachment_conditions` (rule 93). The
dry-run derives its surviving-sha set by NEGATING that same predicate, so
it is honest about blobs the delete would free rather than counting them as
still-referenced — the one place this was easy to get backwards, so it has
its own parity test.

Guards, each with a reason:
- A blob is written before its row commits, so a just-stored file legitimately
has no referencing row. Files under 6h are never judged — same guard and
  reasoning as ORPHAN_TEMP_MIN_AGE_HOURS.
- `.partial` staging files belong to cleanup_orphaned_temp_files; skipped
  rather than raced.
- The sha is parsed as the first 64 chars, not via Path.stem: store() takes
the extension from the source filename, and a URL-encoded basename yields a
multi-dot suffix that would make stem eat part of the sha.
- A 900s walk budget reports partial=True instead of running to the task's
  hard limit (rule 89).
- TASK_STUCK_THRESHOLD_MINUTES override at 30 (= time_limit 25 + 5). Without
it a healthy 20-minute walk is phantom-flagged 'RecoverySweep' at the bare
5-min default — the #883 failure class; its invariant test is mirrored here.

Defaults to the safe preview at both the task and the route, unlike the other
maintenance triggers: this apply unlinks files. Operator-triggered only,
never on a beat.

Ships with its UI (rule 27): AttachmentReclaimCard in Cleanup → Duplicates &
leftovers, built on the existing useMaintenanceTask/MaintenanceTile shapes, so
a run survives navigating away. Surfaces files_failed and partial explicitly,
since both change what the numbers mean.

Also promotes humanBytes to utils/bytes.js — it was byte-identical in
VideoDedupCard and GatedPurgeCard and this card would have been the third
copy. The three divergent `formatBytes` helpers are deliberately left alone.

- Promote .fc-section-h to a global token (app.css). It was copied identically
into 4 cards, and TranslationCard used the class with NO local def — so its
section headers rendered unstyled. Now fixed everywhere.
- Promote .fc-good / .fc-weak status colours to globals; delete the local copies
in the GPU/heads cards. (.fc-ok stays local — divergent: on-surface in
HeadsCard vs success in QueuesTable. .fc-bad stays — different name.)
- Delete 10 identical local .fc-muted redefinitions that crept back after the
2026-06-09 sweep; the global utility already covers them.
- DbMaintenanceCard: opacity:0.6 muted text → the .fc-muted token (the exact
  anti-pattern that token's comment forbids).
- HeadsCard: collapse byte-identical ratePct() into pct().

CSS-only + one template class swap; no logic change.

beneath the nav (top: 64px — Gallery filter bar, Browse/Series/Settings tabs).

Vuetify 4's MD3 sizing changed the real nav height, so 64px was wrong: the
Explore workspace was sized taller than the space below the nav, overflowed the
viewport, and its breadcrumb tucked under the (taller) nav on 1080p.

TopNav now measures its own height via ResizeObserver and publishes it as
--fc-nav-h on documentElement (default 64px in app.css). Every consumer uses
var(--fc-nav-h) instead of the magic number, so the layout self-corrects to the
nav's real height and stays correct as it reflows (per-view teleported actions,
mobile breakpoint). Also tightens the new chrome-gradient seam — sub-headers now
pin at the nav's exact bottom.

The TopNav and each sticky sub-header pinned beneath it (Gallery's filter bar,
the Browse/Series/Settings/Subscriptions tabs bars) each painted their OWN
dark-to-transparent gradient (Gallery) or a solid surface band (the rest), so
the fade read as happening twice — dark, fade out, then dark again — instead of
one gradient flowing from the nav down through the sub-nav.

Operator asked to treat the sub-nav as part of the nav with a single gradient.
New shared .fc-chrome-continues primitive (app.css): the nav fades from opaque
to a shared --fc-chrome-seam alpha (on views flagged meta.stickyChrome), and the
sub-header continues from that exact seam alpha to transparent over its own
height. Both reference the same var so the alphas meet at the 64px boundary — no
re-darkening, no doubling. Percentage stops keep it spanning the filter bar's
expanding refine panel; the primitive's blur keeps tabs/controls legible where
the old solid bars had none. --fc-chrome-seam is the single tuning knob.

CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s
CI / frontend-build (push) Successful in 21s
CI / backend-lint-and-test (push) Successful in 30s

The Explore walk got stuck in dense signatures — neighbours all too similar, so
forward-arrow couldn't escape and Random was the only exit. Root cause: MMR only
diversifies WITHIN the nearest ~400 pool; in a dense cluster that whole pool is
near-identical, so there's no escape route in it.

- gallery_service.similar(reach=0.0, exclude_ids=None): reach>0 widens the pool
(cap 400→1000) and _reach_sample strides across an outward-growing distance span
so the set handed to MMR spans near→mid-far (guaranteed escape routes), not just
the tight cluster. exclude_ids drops already-walked images. Gallery 'more like
  this' (reach=0) is unchanged.
- api/gallery similar: parse reach + exclude_ids.
- explore store: default reach 0.4 (auto-diversifies without touching the dial),
pass the breadcrumb as exclude_ids, setReach action.
- ExploreView: a Near↔Far reach slider in the trail.
- tests: _reach_sample math (deeper ranks with higher reach, near kept); similar
exclude_ids drops walked + reach path runs clean.

The image modal cycled GLOBAL neighbours; now the gallery hands it a snapshot of
the currently-filtered, ordered id list so prev/next moves through exactly what
you're viewing — the filtered-playlist behaviour lost in the ImageRepo→FC move.
Generalized the modal store's post-scoped cycle into a `playlistIds` playlist
reused by both GalleryView and PostCard (falls back to global neighbours when no
playlist is passed, e.g. Explore's "open full viewer").

The payoff: hover a suggestion in the rail and the exact crop that produced it
lights up on the image (a booru:head, a panel, a figure); a null-grounding tag
shows a subtle dashed whole-image frame ('global vector won, not a crop').
ImageCanvas gains a grounding overlay that tracks the <img>'s live bounding rect
(correct under object-fit letterboxing + pan/zoom) and draws the normalized bbox
+ a detector/kind label. SuggestionItem sets the hovered grounding via
provide/inject (no 4-level event relay through TagPanel/SuggestionsPanel/group);
ImageViewer AND ExploreView provide it + pass it to their canvas. Overlay is
pointer-events:none so it never blocks pan/zoom/click. Videos out of v1 scope.

The Activity tab only knew Celery — the GPU agent (the majority of processing)
and the download pipeline were invisible there. Two new self-polling panels:

- GpuActivityPanel: queue depths + triage verdicts (defects / file-ok /
unprobed, top reason buckets) with a jump to Maintenance -> Failed
processing. The triage detail refetches only when the error count moves.
- DownloadsActivityPanel: 24h stat chips + failing-source names with a jump

Both panels join the Activity tab under Queues+workers AND double as the
Overview health strip (side-by-side grid under the Celery summary) — one
component set, so Overview answers 'is everything healthy?' across all
systems. SystemStatsCards reviewed: content still accurate, left as-is.

Settings IA per the approved A3 design (the old layout was the two-app merge
fossilized):
- Import tab retired: ImportTriggerPanel + ImportTaskList deleted (manual
/import scans stay API-level; imports arrive via downloads/extension, heal
via the Layer-2 auto-refetch sweep, and show in Activity). ImportFiltersForm
moves to Maintenance → 'Ingestion & filters' and loads its own settings; the
import store shrinks to settings-only (no remaining consumers of the
scan/task-list machinery). Overview's pending banner now points at Activity.
- Maintenance regrouped: Ingestion & filters / GPU agent & embeddings
(GpuAgent, Failed processing, CPU embedding backfill) / Tagging (sliders,
Heads, Aliases) / Library health (MissingFiles, Thumbnails, DB, Archive
  re-extract demoted last) / Storage.
- One extension home: BrowserExtensionCard moves from Settings → Overview to
Subscriptions → Settings, above the API key bar it authenticates.
- Single-color import filter WIRED: skip_single_color/threshold existed since
FC-2 but nothing read them (the audit module's docstring said as much) —
now enforced on both import paths via the audit's canonical predicate
(tolerance 30, matching the Cleanup card default; animated images exempt
like the transparency check). Default stays off; test added.
- Dead weight: PlaceholderView (zero refs) and the permanently-disabled
'Export failed logs (CSV — v2)' menu stub deleted; stale docs fixed
(celery queue docstring, threshold comment citing retired tasks, ml
package docstring, HeadsCard 'replaces Camie' blurb).

Autoscaler (agent 2026-07-02.5): the buffer-occupancy signal alone would peg
downloaders at DL_MAX while the bandwidth CAP — not concurrency — is the real
constraint (8 streams sharing 8 MB/s move no more data than 4). Growth is now
gated on the pipe having headroom (net < 85% of cap) and a pipe pinned at the
cap (>= 95%) sheds streams down to 3; dead band prevents flapping. The UI hint
says 'holding at the bandwidth cap' and /status reports bw_capped, so the
behavior is legible without tests that need the ML stack.

Reset content tagging: stays a FULL-instance reset (operator's call), but now
lives in a fenced 'Danger zone' section on Cleanup and the apply is gated by a
preview-derived confirm token (mirrors the Tier-C bulk-delete pattern — stale
counts are rejected server-side). Copy no longer claims suggestions repopulate:
it says plainly the heads' training examples are deleted and re-tagging starts
fresh. Moved out of TagMaintenanceCard into DangerZoneCard.

Two cadences for keeping heads in sync with your tagging:
- PASSIVE: a nightly `scheduled_train_heads` beat (skips if a run is already

- ACTIVE: a "Retrain heads" button in the Explore trail bar — bank the +/-
feedback you just gave while walking content, without a trip to Settings.

Shared logic in a new useHeadTraining composable (trigger + poll + start/finish
toasts), used by the Explore button; reflects an already-running run (incl. the

Arrow keys walk the Explore breadcrumb trail: ← steps back, → goes forward to
an already-visited item or — with no forward history — jumps to a RANDOM
neighbour to keep the rabbit-hole going (operator-asked).

The trail gains a cursor (browser back/forward semantics): stepping back no
longer trims the forward branch, so → can return to it; a genuinely new walk
off a back-step truncates the stale branch then appends. The crumb-bar "current"
highlight follows the cursor, not the tip.

Arrows are ignored while typing a tag, but still navigate when the tag input is
focused-but-empty (it auto-focuses after every walk, so otherwise arrow-nav
would dead-end after one step). Modifier-key combos pass through untouched.

The panes grid had no explicit row, so the implicit `auto` row sized to its

rail outgrew the fixed-height workspace, spilled over and made the WHOLE page
scrollable — showing as a weird empty gap at the top (operator-flagged
2026-06-26). grid-template-rows: minmax(0, 1fr) bounds the row to the container
so each pane's own overflow-y:auto scrolls internally instead. Reset to `none`

Explore is a rapid walk-and-tag surface, so focus must keep returning to the tag
input with no extra click (operator-asked 2026-06-26). Two gaps closed:

- Navigation hardening: refocus on every focused-image change (neighbour click,
breadcrumb, Random image, seed) now runs nextTick → requestAnimationFrame, so
it lands AFTER the post-navigation re-render/paint instead of being stolen
  back by the neighbour-grid re-render.
- All tag actions refocus, in both Explore and the modal: tag add (existing/new)
and remove now hand focus back like accept-suggestion already did; and the
rename + fandom-assignment dialogs refocus on @after-leave (fires after
Vuetify's own focus-return to the activator, so ours wins).

TagAutocomplete's mobile guard is preserved throughout (no soft-keyboard pop on
touch). Modal behaviour gains the same stickier focus — consistent, low-risk.

The workspace is built for rapid walk-and-tag, but the tag field was only
focused once (TagAutocomplete's on-mount autofocus) — walking to a neighbour
left focus behind, so the operator had to click the field each time
(operator-asked 2026-06-26).

TagPanel now exposes focusTagInput; ExploreView watches the focused image id and
re-focuses the field on seed + every walk via nextTick. Reuses the existing

preserved.

Reworks Explore from "anchor + neighbour grid + cluster tag-gap rail" into a
persistent 3-pane workspace that unfolds the image modal so you can tag while
rabbit-holing (operator concept 2026-06-26):

- LEFT neighbour grid (larger thumbs), click = walk; breadcrumb retained.
- CENTER light viewer — reuses ImageCanvas + ImageMetaBar(:image) for the
focused image; "Open full viewer" still launches the overlay modal.
- RIGHT the modal's TagPanel, hosted on the anchor for modal-parity tagging
(chips, autocomplete, suggestions + Accept, fandom-on-chip, T/"/" focus).

Reuse without destabilising the audited modal store: TagPanel and
SuggestionsPanel gain an optional `host` prop (default = modal store, so the
image modal is unchanged); the explore store implements the same small
tag-CRUD surface (current/currentImageId + reloadTags/addExistingTag/
removeTag/createAndAdd) over the anchor. ImageMetaBar gains an optional
`image` prop for the same reason.

Drops the mass/cluster tagger (TagGapPanel deleted; clusterIds/thumbById
removed) — per-image tagging feeds the per-tag reference-embedding centroid
better than bulk ops.

Nav: keep the Explore tab but bare /explore now SEEDS a random image
(GET /api/showcase?limit=1 → /explore/:id) so the tab kick-starts a rabbit
hole; explicit meta.navOrder pins nav order (Explore after Gallery) since
router.getRoutes() doesn't preserve declaration order.

Note: the backend cluster tag-gaps route/service (#94a) is now frontend-orphaned
— left in place; flag for a separate cleanup.

the tag was already allowlisted.

#8b: TagsView merge picker now previews the merge via usePreviewCommit before
committing — shows images moving / already-on-target / series pages / alias-or-
delete / a thumbnail sample, blocks the Merge button on an incompatible
kind/fandom. adminStore.mergeTags gains a dryRun option.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 311fe0ee9c feat(settings): tidy Maintenance tab into compact tiles + center the views (pass 2)

CI / frontend-build (push) Successful in 26s
CI / backend-lint-and-test (push) Successful in 42s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 3m27s
Goal (operator 2026-06-18): the overview of a Settings tab fits one unscrolled
viewport; expanding a tile to read into it is the only reason to scroll.

- Every Maintenance card converted to the collapsible MaintenanceTile (collapsed
by default = icon + short title + one-line blurb). Task cards (ML backfill,
centroids, thumbnails, archive re-extract, missing-file repair, DB maintenance)
sit in a responsive grid; running tasks auto-expand. Tagging config (suggestion
thresholds, allowlist, aliases) grouped in one Tagging section as collapsible
tiles; Backup is its own collapsible tile.
- Three labeled sections mirror the Cleanup tab: Backfills and reprocessing /
  Tagging / Storage.
- Center the whole Settings surface: SettingsView is now a centered, width-capped
(1140px) column so the tab strip and every panel sit in a tidy centered measure
(was full-width). CleanupView drops its own left-aligned max-width to fill it.

All card logic unchanged - only the chrome.

CI / backend-lint-and-test (push) Successful in 27s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 3m14s
The Cleanup + Maintenance sections had ~17 full-width stacked cards with long
descriptions — a hunt to scan. Operator wants compact, sectioned, scannable tiles
(2026-06-18: keep both tabs, group inside, compact tiles in a grid).

New common/MaintenanceTile.vue: a compact expandable tile (icon + short title +
one-line blurb collapsed; click the header to expand the full controls/preview/
result inline; keyboard-accessible button + focus ring; tints the
icon, keeps a running task expanded).

Cleanup tab (this pass) restructured into 3 sections — Import-filter audits
(Min dimensions, Transparency, Single-color) / Duplicates & posts (Bare posts,
Duplicate posts, Deduplicate videos, Gated-post previews) / Tags (Unused, Legacy,
Reset content tagging, Standardize casing) — each a responsive grid of tiles.
PostMaintenanceCard split into 2 tiles, TagMaintenanceCard into 4. Moved
VideoDedupCard + GatedPurgeCard from the Maintenance tab here (both are
destructive content cleanup). All card logic unchanged — only the chrome.

Maintenance tab tiling is pass 2 (TODO noted in MaintenancePanel).

The Series tab strip and the Browse search/sort (and Suggestions controls)
scrolled away on a long grid (operator-asked). Hoist the tabs + active-tab
controls into one sticky header pinned under the 64px TopNav. The controls
had to leave v-window — it clips sticky children — so they're driven by the
tab from the header instead of living inside each window-item.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 5c3f8ebd70 fix(aliases): store modal alias under raw model key + make aliases visible/manageable
CI / lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI / frontend-build (push) Successful in 22s
CI / backend-lint-and-test (push) Successful in 35s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 3m7s
The headline bug: aliases created from the modal NEVER resolved. Create
sent the normalized display name ('Sword', 'Uchiha Sasuke') while
resolution keys on the raw booru model key ('sword', 'uchiha_sasuke',
case-sensitive) — so the mapping was stored under a key nothing looks up,
and the prediction kept reappearing unaliased. The raw key wasn't even in
the /suggestions response, so the modal couldn't send it.

- Suggestion now carries raw_name (the model key an alias must use) and
via_alias (surfaced via an operator alias); both serialized by the API.
- Modal alias-create sends raw_name, not display_name (the fix). Aliased
suggestions show an 'alias' badge and a 'Remove alias' action; 'Treat as
alias for…' is hidden for centroid hits (no model key) and already-aliased
  rows.
- Tag-side management: TagCard ⋮ → 'Aliases…' opens a dialog listing the
model keys that fold into a tag, with remove (GET /api/tags/<id>/aliases +
AliasService.list_for_tag). Creation stays in the modal suggestion flow.

Tests: full API round-trip locking the raw-key contract (raw_name exposed →
alias authored with it → resolves + via_alias on a later image);
list_for_tag (service + API); via_alias/raw_name on the existing service
suggestion tests. No migration.

The Browse tab nav scrolled away (operator didn't know it existed) and
Posts had no search. Roll the tab strip + a shared search field into one
sticky block pinned under the 64px TopNav.

- Posts gains server-side text search: PostFeedService.scroll()/around()
+ /api/posts accept q (ILIKE over post_title OR description), applied
INSIDE the artist/platform WHERE so search stays scoped to the active
filter. Scope shown as clearable chips next to the search field.
- Artists/Tags search consolidates into the sticky bar: their inner
search boxes are removed; they react to route.query.q (q is deep-
  linkable, e.g. /browse?tab=posts&q=foo). Platform/kind filters stay.
- Posts empty state now distinguishes 'no matches' from 'no posts yet'.

Tests: posts q-search matches title|description and stays artist-scoped
(service); q passthrough (api).

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 013b9d7f06 feat(series): operator-set sparse page numbers + gap blocks (#789 tweak)
CI / lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI / frontend-build (push) Successful in 21s
CI / backend-lint-and-test (push) Successful in 28s
CI / integration (push) Failing after 3m17s
Replaces the auto-renumbered 1..N position key with operator-OWNED page
numbers: sparse, gaps allowed, editable, never auto-renumbered. Order follows
the numbers; unnumbered pages sort to the tail. This is the fix for the model
that clobbered hand-set numbers on the flatten — numbers are now data, not a
derived sequence.

- series_service: drop the renumber-on-reorder/remove; order by page_number
  NULLS LAST; new set_page_number(image_id, n|None); list_pages returns `gaps`
  (one entry per missing-number run) + each pending group's parsed `start_page`;
set_cover renumbers below the current min; place_pending(image_ids, start_page)
numbers placed pages sequentially from the start (drop junk first → numbers
line up); add_post stamps the parsed start on staged pages.
- api/tags: POST /series/<id>/pages/number (set one page's number); /pending/
  place takes start_page; removed /reorder.
- frontend: per-card editable number input; one gap block per gap with
  drop-on-edge to assign the adjacent number (middle → type); append drop zone;
pending tray gets a "from page N" field + "Place from page N".
- tests reworked: sparse numbers + gaps, place-from-start, set-page-number route.

No migration; nothing destructive.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 7bb765b6ed feat(series): pending staging for add-from-post (#789 Phase 2)

CI / frontend-build (push) Successful in 24s
CI / backend-lint-and-test (push) Successful in 30s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 3m17s
Add-from-post no longer appends straight into the run — it STAGES the post's
pages as pending (per-page status; page_number NULL), grouped by source post,
so the operator drops junk (text-free alts, bumpers) and places the keepers
into the sequence with clean series-global numbering.

- migration 0048: series_page.status ('placed' default | 'pending') + nullable
  page_number.
- series_service: placed/pending split everywhere (list_pages returns the
placed run + a `pending` section grouped by source post; reorder/cover/
list_series operate on placed only); add_post stages pending; new
  place_pending(image_ids, before_image_id=None) flips pending→placed spliced
before a page (or appended) and renumbers; junk removal reuses remove_images.
- api/tags: /add-post now returns staged count; new POST /series/<id>/pending/
  place.
- frontend: PostSeriesMenu navigates to the series after staging; seriesManage
store surfaces `pending` + placePending; SeriesManageView gains a pending
  tray (per-post groups, place-all / place-one / drop-junk).
- tests: pending staging, place (append + insert-before), ignore-already-
  placed, drop-junk, route guard; updated add_post + match-accept expectations.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 59746d213d feat(series): flat series sequence + cosmetic chapter dividers (#789 Phase 1)
CI / lint (push) Successful in 3s
CI / backend-lint-and-test (push) Successful in 35s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 3m13s
CI / frontend-build (push) Successful in 21s
Reframe a series from "ordered chapters that own pages" to ONE flat,
series-global ordered run of pages with optional cosmetic chapter DIVIDERS
over it. A chapter no longer wraps content — it's a labeled divider anchored
to the page that begins it; a page's chapter is derived as the nearest
preceding divider. This is what lets installments assembled from multiple
sources sit in one continuous, correctly-numbered sequence (operator's
Goblin Juice case).

- migration 0047: flatten each series to a series-global page_number
(preserving today's reading order); convert each existing chapter to a
divider anchored at its first page (keeping title/stated_part); drop
  series_page.chapter_id; reshape series_chapter (anchor_page_id UNIQUE FK,
  drop chapter_number/is_placeholder/stated_page_start/end). Loss-safe for
content; drops empty placeholder chapters + a redundant page-1 divider.
- series_page: page_number is now the series-global order; no chapter_id.
- series_chapter: anchored divider (anchor_page_id, title, stated_part).
- series_service: flat list_pages (one run + derived dividers + per-page
  source_post + part_gaps), series-wide reorder/renumber, divider CRUD
  (create/update/move/delete); retired per-chapter reorder/merge/placement.
- api/tags: drop chapter_id from add; /chapters endpoints are divider
  create/update/delete (removed chapter reorder/merge/page-reorder).
- series_match_service: series "end" reads max(series_page.stated_page);
  accept appends via add_post. tag_service series-merge appends src's pages
after tgt's max so the merged series stays one clean run.
- frontend: seriesManage store + SeriesManageView → one continuous
  drag-reorder grid with inline divider bars + series-global page numbers;
reader walks the flat run, headings from dividers; PostSeriesMenu copy.
- tests reworked across the series suite for the divider model.

Phase 2 (pending staging for add-from-post) is separate.

The muted-text token was redefined identically in 12 component <style scoped>
blocks. Consolidate to one global utility in styles/app.css; remove the 12
copies. Keeps the explicit on-surface-variant (vellum) token, NOT Vuetify's
opacity-based text-medium-emphasis (per the muted-text-token rule). Behavior-
preserving: every class=fc-muted usage now resolves to the single source.

§8b exhaustiveness caught (and I fixed) my own sed clobbering the new app.css
rule — now exactly one .fc-muted definition exists, zero component-local.

CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s
CI / frontend-build (push) Successful in 22s
CI / backend-lint-and-test (push) Successful in 40s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 3m18s
First pattern-consistency DRY pass (process #594). The overflow kebab was
hand-rolled 7 ways in two divergent activator strategies — Pattern A
(#activator + v-bind) which silently breaks inside the teleported image modal
(#711), and Pattern B (manual v-model + activator=parent + open-on-click=false +
z-index 2400) the modal kebabs needed as a workaround.

New <KebabMenu> (components/common) bakes in the modal-safe strategy
UNIVERSALLY, so every kebab works in modal and non-modal contexts — folding the
latent #711-class bug fix into all five Pattern-A sites. Menu items go in the
default slot; variations (size/variant/location/label/min-width) are props.

Adopted across all 7: TagChip, SuggestionItem, TagCard, SeriesView card,
SeriesManageView, BackupRunsTable, SourceActions. Exhaustiveness (§8b):
mdi-dots-vertical now lives only in KebabMenu. Labeled dropdowns / nav menus /
filter popovers are a different concept and left alone. Seeded the pattern
catalog so new code reuses the primitive. Test: KebabMenu renders slot items +
trigger label/glyph + presentational props.

Posts, Artists, and Tags are the three 'browse the library by an axis'
surfaces; Subscriptions stays purely management (operator-asked 2026-06-09).
New BrowseView renders them as tabs (?tab=posts|artists|tags); only the active
tab mounts. The old standalone paths become redirects into the matching tab,
preserving deep-link query (/posts?post_id=N → /browse?tab=posts&post_id=N) and
keeping the route names so existing { name: 'posts'|'artists'|'tags' } links and
path pushes still resolve. Nav now reads Showcase · Gallery · Browse · Series ·
Subscriptions, with Settings pinned right.

Test: /browse resolves; /tags and /artists redirect into their tabs; a posts
deep link survives the redirect.

bvandeusenandClaude Opus 4.8 a8f624a0f1 fix(posts): link duplicate items to every post + prune bare shells
CI / lint (push) Successful in 2s
CI / frontend-build (push) Successful in 26s
CI / backend-lint-and-test (push) Successful in 30s
CI / integration (push) Successful in 3m20s
The native Patreon backfill flooded the feed with bare 'Post <id>' shells
(1589 for Anduo). Root cause: PostAttachment.sha256 was GLOBALLY unique, so a
non-art file reused across posts only ever linked to the first one, and
_capture_attachment created the Post before that dedup check — leaving later
posts with no image and no attachment. Duplicate IMAGES had the mirror gap:
attach_in_place returned duplicate_hash/duplicate_phash before _apply_sidecar,
so the second post got no provenance row, and the feed only rendered via
primary_post_id (one post per image).

Operator requirement: a duplicate item must show on EVERY post it appears in.
Unify the fix as link-not-suppress:

- importer: on duplicate_hash / duplicate_phash(larger_exists), append an
image_provenance row for the new post (keep primary on the first). Both the
download path (attach_in_place) and the filesystem path (_import_media).
- post_feed_service: render thumbnails by image_provenance UNION primary_post_id,
so a cross-posted image shows on every post (and legacy primary-only images
  still show).
- PostAttachment: per-post uniqueness — drop UNIQUE(sha256), add partial
  UNIQUE(post_id, sha256) + partial UNIQUE(sha256) WHERE post_id IS NULL
(migration 0043); _capture_attachment dedups per-(post,sha) over the shared
sha-addressed blob, so no post is left bare.
- cleanup: new prune-bare-posts maintenance action (cleanup_service
  _bare_post_conditions shared by preview/count/delete per preview/apply parity;
admin endpoint; PostMaintenanceCard). Deletes posts with zero image links
(primary or provenance) AND zero attachments. Run after the feed fix so a
hidden provenance link spares the post instead of deleting it.

Tests: dup image shows on both posts; dup attachment shows on both posts; feed
renders provenance-linked duplicates; prune-bare delete-path == preview.

Operator redeploys (migration 0043) then runs the prune to clear the shells.

Operator-flagged (again) on the tag-merge picker: Enter on the dropdown re-opens
it instead of accepting the selection. I'd already patched this twice (fandom
picker + fandom set dialog) with copy-pasted capture-phase handlers, so DRY it.

New composable useAcceptOnEnter(accept): tracks the menu state and, on a
capture-phase Enter, lets Vuetify pick when the menu is open but calls accept()
(and blocks the re-open) when it's closed. Applied to every confirm-style picker:
- TagsView merge-into picker (the reported one)
- AliasPickerDialog
- PostSeriesMenu add-to-existing
- FandomPicker + FandomSetDialog (refactored off their bespoke handlers)

One behavior, one place to change it.
