torch and onnxruntime both fall back to the CPU without raising, so the agent that ran CPU-bound for weeks after a driver update leased and checked in like a healthy one. - The agent sends its startup accel report on every lease and heartbeat. - The server keeps a bounded copy on the roster row. A running agent with a runtime off the GPU becomes `degraded`, with a sentence naming the runtime and the reason. - The top nav shows it amber. - The agent page carries a banner, and its pill reads "CPU only". Also: the bandwidth field gets the page's − / + stepper, and both number fields drop the browser's spin arrows. There was a reason and it had expired, and underneath it there was plain

The expired one: /api/system/workers was deliberately uncached because an

Operator, 2026-09-23: *"auto should be always on, not a setting, so that idle
instances quiet down when not running. the number that is visible and
something the user can tweak and manage should be the cap itself the number of
running workers is handled by the autoscaling function which is always on."*
They are right, and the reason it was not built this way is worth stating: the
manual dial came first (steps 2-4) and the autoscaler came last (step 7), as
an opt-in BESIDE a control that already existed. Nothing ever asked whether
the dial should still exist once something could move it automatically. Each
step was defensible; the result was three operator settings over one number.
## `slots`, `enabled` and `autoscale` are gone
`slots` was a MEASUREMENT wearing a preference's clothes. How many workers a
lane runs is read live and moved every minute; storing it meant the operator
had to keep two numbers in agreement and the autoscaler had to be told it was
allowed to touch one of them.
`autoscale` gated the mechanism behind a choice, so a lane nobody opted in
never gave its workers back — which is why an idle instance never quieted
down.
`enabled` is derived: a cap of zero means no consumers. "Off" and "may use no
workers" were two spellings of one fact, stored separately, free to disagree.
## Two sweeps become one
`reconcile_lanes_sync` drove the pool to the stored `slots`; `autoscale_lanes_
sync` moved it away from that same number; and most of step 7's hardest
reasoning — a stored value that is a FLOOR, a target of `max(stored, current)`
— existed only to stop them fighting. Delete the stored number and the problem
is not solved, it is absent.
`size_lanes_sync` runs every minute and owns both consumers and pool size. It
also subsumes what the reconcile was for: a worker restarted at its ENV
concurrency is corrected on the next tick rather than after five.
Growth is immediate, shrink is one worker per tick. Deliberately asymmetric —
"always on" is only pleasant if the ramp keeps up, and +1/minute would take
four minutes to answer a burst. Being one worker too large for a minute costs
a sleeping process; being too small costs work not happening. For ML the
asymmetry matters most: every new slot reloads a multi-GB model, so the slow
shrink is what stops a quiet patch from paying that cost again a minute later.
## The caps ship at one, and zero for ML
Per the operator. Conservative on purpose — and a conservative default nobody
knows how to raise is just a slow product, which is the other half of what
they asked for:
"there needs to be something that tells the user to bump those numbers to
improve processing rate or they'd never know the controls exist."
So a lane running everything its cap allows while work piles up says so, in
its own row, with the headroom named: *"4,060 waiting and all 1 worker busy.
Raise the cap to run more at once — this machine allows up to 7."*
It fires only when raising the cap would actually help. Not when the lane is
keeping up, not when the sizing pass has room it has not taken, and not at the
machine ceiling — where "raise the cap" is advice nobody can take.
## Migration 0105 rewrites the caps rather than carrying them
The old defaults (4/2/2/1) bounded a manual control and were loose because
moving within them was the ordinary act. The number now means "the most
workers this lane may use", which is a different promise; carrying the old
figure over would quadruple the worker lane on every existing install at the
moment this deploys.

Operator, 2026-09-23, on the screenshot: *"I feel that we can probably combine the two sections into a single table and to format it in such a way that it appears more bounded and less free-form or open. also there's nothing to describe what 'auto' means or why their needs to be or should be on/off toggles. almost all of it always needs to run there's only one optional piece and it is killed by moving the 'cap' to zero."* Three separate things, all correct. ## The four lanes were listed twice The roster (milestone 365) said "ML tagging is running", and four hundred pixels below it the lanes pane said "ML tagging · 1/1 busy". Two answers to one question from two endpoints, free to disagree on screen. I moved the second pane onto this tab yesterday and did not notice it duplicated the first. Now one row per part, with controls on the rows that have a lane and none on the rows that do not. The join is on the QUEUE SET, because that is what `service_roster` keys a celery part on — as a set, not as a string, so neither side has to agree about order. It lives in `utils/systemParts.js` rather than inline, and has a spec, because its failure is SILENT and is the exact thing it exists to prevent: a lane that stops matching its part does not throw, it grows a second row for the same worker. The duplication, returning through the code that removed it. ## Bounded, not free-form A real table — header, column rules, one bordered card — instead of dotted rows floating on the page background with nothing saying where the list began or what a column meant. ## The dial is the switch There was an `On` switch per lane beside the slots dial. Of four lanes, three must run for the application to work at all, so that switch offered a choice that was never real — and for the one lane that IS optional, "off" and "zero slots" were two ways of saying the same thing that could disagree with each other. So `enabled` is now DERIVED from the number: `set_lane` sets it from `slots > 0` when the caller did not say. It stays on the API and in the model — it is still the mechanism, and a drain-before-restart may still want a lane holding its process with consumers cancelled without destroying the operator's slot count to say so. Two things fell out that a test now pins: - The consumer command is sent on the CHANGE, not on the field being present. Otherwise every slots write re-sends a command that changes nothing — lesson #4183's churn, arriving through the new derivation. - The model fetch fires on the off→on TRANSITION. It used to test `enabled is True`, the field having been sent. The UI no longer sends it, so the download that makes the ML lane usable would simply never have fired and the lane would have come on to consume a queue it had no model for. ## And Auto now says what it is A legend under the table, in the operator's terms: what a slot is, that zero turns a lane off, that three of the four are not optional, what `of N` means, and that Auto lets a lane add slots by itself when its queue is backed up AND every slot is busy — with why it is off by default, since it is the only thing on the page that acts without being asked. Executes the 2026-07-05 product decision (FC downloaders = art-dedicated
services only), which removed Twitter/X and Bluesky but left deviantart
fully wired for seven weeks — the half-retired state rule 22 exists to
prevent.
Removed: the PlatformInfo module and its registry entry, the gallery-dl
extractor block, extension_service's artist-page pattern, the extension's
PLATFORMS + PLATFORM_ARTIST_PATTERNS entries, its manifest host permission
and content-script match, the frontend icon/colour/label, and the operator-
facing "supported platforms" list that still advertised it.
Two judgment calls, both recorded in migration 0088:
* existing `source` rows are DISABLED, not deleted. The row is the only
record of the artist's DeviantArt URL. Disabling is also required for
correctness rather than tidiness: with the platform unregistered the
download path falls through to gallery-dl, which carries its OWN
deviantart extractor, so an enabled row would have kept downloading
from a dropped platform.
* the `credential` row IS deleted — a live session cookie for a site FC
will never call again.
Adds the invariant whose absence is why manifest.json drifted in the first
place: nothing tied its domain lists back to the platform table. The
extension suite now asserts both directions, plus that no host permission
belongs to an unclaimed domain (`*://*/*` exempted — FC is self-hosted at
an operator-chosen URL the extension cannot enumerate).
Extension version 1.0.10 -> 1.0.11: ci.yml's guard hard-fails a packaged
extension change without a bump. No release is cut — build.yml's
sign-extension job only runs on main.

feat(cleanup): reclaim orphaned attachments — rows and store blobs (#3068)
PostAttachment's two FKs are both ON DELETE SET NULL, so a deleted post or artist left the row behind rather than taking it. Nothing ever pruned those rows, and nothing in the repo had ever unlinked a file under the attachment store — so both rows and bytes accumulated permanently, invisible to every existing diagnostic. Why a disk->DB reconciliation rather than a row sweep: the store is sha-addressed and idempotent, so ONE blob backs MANY rows. Deleting a row does not free its blob, and since the artist cascade (#3066) now deletes its attachment rows outright, a freed blob has no DB pointer left to find it by. Walking the store and asking "does any row still reference this sha?" catches orphans from every cause, including ones no future delete path will think to report. Preview and apply share `_orphan_attachment_conditions` (rule 93). The dry-run derives its surviving-sha set by NEGATING that same predicate, so it is honest about blobs the delete would free rather than counting them as still-referenced — the one place this was easy to get backwards, so it has its own parity test. Guards, each with a reason: - A blob is written before its row commits, so a just-stored file legitimately has no referencing row. Files under 6h are never judged — same guard and reasoning as ORPHAN_TEMP_MIN_AGE_HOURS. - `.partial` staging files belong to cleanup_orphaned_temp_files; skipped rather than raced. - The sha is parsed as the first 64 chars, not via Path.stem: store() takes the extension from the source filename, and a URL-encoded basename yields a multi-dot suffix that would make stem eat part of the sha. - A 900s walk budget reports partial=True instead of running to the task's hard limit (rule 89). - TASK_STUCK_THRESHOLD_MINUTES override at 30 (= time_limit 25 + 5). Without it a healthy 20-minute walk is phantom-flagged 'RecoverySweep' at the bare 5-min default — the #883 failure class; its invariant test is mirrored here. Defaults to the safe preview at both the task and the route, unlike the other maintenance triggers: this apply unlinks files. Operator-triggered only, never on a beat. Ships with its UI (rule 27): AttachmentReclaimCard in Cleanup → Duplicates & leftovers, built on the existing useMaintenanceTask/MaintenanceTile shapes, so a run survives navigating away. Surfaces files_failed and partial explicitly, since both change what the numbers mean. Also promotes humanBytes to utils/bytes.js — it was byte-identical in VideoDedupCard and GatedPurgeCard and this card would have been the third copy. The three divergent `formatBytes` helpers are deliberately left alone. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(showcase): reveal each tile only once its image is fully decoded
The buffered cascade revealed tiles on an 80ms timer regardless of image load, so the flip-in animation played on a gray placeholder and the thumbnail popped in afterward. Worse, MasonryGrid ALSO applied a per-index animation-delay (index×70ms) that compounded on top of the insert cadence, so the cascade visibly dragged and desynced as it grew. Now the producer preloads each queued thumbnail (decode pipelined ahead) and the consumer awaits that decode before pushing the item — every tile animates in fully loaded, strictly one at a time. Drop the compounding CSS stagger; the store's one-item-at-a-time push is the sole pacer, so each tile animates the instant it mounts. New utils/preloadImage.js (load+decode+timeout gate). fix(modal): next arrow clears metadata panel + arrows work in empty tag input
Image viewer (#609): - The next (▶) arrow was offset from the viewport edge (right:16px) so it floated over the 320px metadata side panel. Offset it off a shared --fc-side-w var so it sits at the image's right edge instead; full-width again below 900px when the panel stacks under the image. - Arrow nav was fully disabled whenever a text field was focused. Now it yields to the caret ONLY when the field has text; an empty tag-entry field still navigates ←/→. Extracted to utils/textEntry.js (arrowNavAllowed). ESC behaviour unchanged (already closes the modal, overlay-aware). Test: arrowNavAllowed — empty/non-text → navigate, text present → don't. feat(I6): FE/BE enum contract test — pin JS mirrors to backend canon
The plain-JS frontend re-declares two backend enum value-sets by hand: download-event statuses (downloadStatus.js) and platform keys (platformColor.js). With no TS codegen, drift is silent — the same class as the last_verified_at field mismatch. tests/test_fe_be_contract.py parses both JS mirrors and asserts they equal the backend canon (downloads._ALLOWED_STATUSES, platforms.known_platform_keys()) so a change on either side fails CI on whichever moved. Backend is the source of truth. Documented the invariant in both JS file headers. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(ui): render absolute timestamps in the viewer's local timezone
Download event times showed raw UTC wall-clock (iso.slice). Added formatDateTime()/formatLocalDate() (local tz, robust to naive vs tz-aware ISO) and applied them to the download row + detail modal datetimes and the credential/artist date displays. formatPostDate stays UTC (date-only, locale-stable, unit-tested). feat(posts): plain bold titles; reserve View-original to the post card; provenance links to the posts feed
- Post titles arrived as stored HTML (e.g. <strong>…</strong>) rendering as literal markup. New toPlainText() strips tags; titles render plain + bold (ProvenancePanel and PostCard). - Removed "View original post" from the provenance panel (modal) — the open-original button lives on the PostCard (the post view). - Provenance "View post" now navigates to the /posts feed (post_id query), not the gallery image grid. refactor(dry-F2): centralize shared UI primitives (relative-time, toast, download-status)
- utils/date.js: add formatRelative(iso, {future,nullText}); migrate 6 sites
(SourceRow, SubscriptionsTab, SourceHealthDot, SchedulerStatusBar +
thin adapters in BackupRunsTable/SystemActivityTab for their '—' null text).
PostCard (30d->absolute) and CredentialCard (mo/y buckets) intentionally
keep bespoke formatters.
- utils/toast.js: toast(opts) wraps the globalThis.window?.__fcToast?.(...)
incantation; migrate 63 call sites across 24 files.
- utils/downloadStatus.js: single source for the download-event status enum
-> label/color/icon; collapse the 3 duplicate maps (DownloadStatChips,
DownloadsFilterPopover, DownloadEventRow).
Net -33 lines. Platform metadata was already centralized in platformColor.js.

feat(subs-hub): collapse /credentials + /downloads into /subscriptions hub with three GS-style subtabs
Replaces the three top-level routes with a single `/subscriptions` parent
owning the whole download-pipeline domain. Internal tab state via `?tab=`
query param, mirroring ArtistView's pattern. TopNav auto-drops the two
removed entries (route-driven via meta.title). Bookmark-safe redirects
from `/credentials` and `/downloads` route into the appropriate subtab.
**Subtab 1 — Subscriptions (default).** Carries over the existing
artist-grouped expandable table; adds (a) status filter dropdown, (b)
bulk-select column with Enable/Disable/Delete-all actions, (c) GS-style
color-coded `PlatformChip` per distinct platform in the collapsed row.
Reuses SourceRow, SourceHealthDot, SourceFormDialog, ArtistCreateDialog.
**Subtab 2 — Downloads.** Full GS dashboard. Five colored stat chips up
top (Queued/Running/Completed/Failed/Skipped, sourced from new
`GET /api/downloads/stats?window_hours=`). Popover-style filter UI
(Status/Source/FromDate/ToDate) with active-filter pills below.
Maintenance menu wraps existing /api/import/retry-failed and
/api/import/clear-stuck endpoints; Export-failed-logs item disabled with
a "v2" tooltip. Per-row Retry preserved via existing DownloadEventRow.
**Subtab 3 — Settings.** Four sections: ExtensionKeyBar (top), GS-style
per-platform CredentialCard grid (md=6 v-row/v-col, dashed border if
unset / accent border if set, expandable how-to panel), Downloader card
(rate limit, validate_files), Schedule defaults card (default interval,
event retention, failure warning threshold). The Downloader and Schedule
sections were extracted out of components/settings/ImportFiltersForm.vue
— SettingsView's Import tab now owns only image-import filters.
**Backend:** new `GET /api/downloads/stats` returns
{pending, running, ok, error, skipped} count grouped by status over the
configurable window. Status keys stay raw from the ENUM; UI does the
display-label mapping. Two integration tests pin the response shape +
window_hours validation.
**Util:** `frontend/src/utils/platformColor.js` — single source of truth
for the six platforms' color + icon + label, mirroring GS's palette
(patreon=red mdi-patreon, subscribestar=amber mdi-star,
hentaifoundry=purple mdi-palette, discord=indigo mdi-discord,
pixiv=blue mdi-alpha-p-box, deviantart=green mdi-deviantart). Unknown
platform falls back to grey + mdi-web.
Deferred (explicit non-goals): subscription import/export, "Trigger Due
Now" scheduler-tick button (needs new backend endpoint), Export Failed
Logs CSV dump.
